So i need to start seriously looking for another job, but the idea kind of terrifies me. My name has not been changed and my gender marker says female, so how should I put my name down on applications? Can I put my chosen name or am I required to put my legal name? For people who have gone through the process before your info had been changed, how did you explain being trans in the interview? What kind of questions are they allowed to ask you?

I know staples asks you for your preffered name on the online app.

I think if you were doing an interveiw and told them I go by (guy name goes here) they should listen.

I agree with Mr. Rainey. I've gotten two jobs so far (got the current job and my previous one before starting T or having my name changed) and I stuck with putting my legal stuff and then filling in a preferred name if there is a spot for it. If not I go into the interview explaining "I'm transgender, I prefer to go by..." if they ask me what that means I explain it and say " basically just treat me like any other male employee".  Good luck man

I know some of my FTM friends in Canada(not sure how it works in other countries) apply to jobs with their male name and if they get an interview they say it is their "alias" and explain it then. Then when they get hired they only put their legal name on legal documents such as bank depoits, sin card stuff, and signatures.

But if an application for a job requires a signature with a checkbox that agrees that everything is true to the best of your knowledge then I wouldn't risk it because normally those ask for criminal checks and having different names might make them think you have trouble with the law perhaps.

In my experience, in the States, all job applications ask for your signature to say that the above information is true to the best of your ability, and if you fail to tell the truth it is grounds for rejection, or termination if found out after you are hired.

That sucks then. I think Canada is the same way but a way around that is applying for jobs online.

I literally just went and applied to staples after you said that. thanks for the heads up.

Target and ToysRus also ask for preferred name

Most online apps have you 'sign' by submitting the app and grant the same as a legal signature.
