Yes, I'm talking about that part of the Entertainment industry that has only been around for little more than a couple of decades. Video games have fascinated me since a very early age (the first system I remember playing on was my dad's NES, and my love for gaming has grown exponentially with each new game I play.) So what systems do you own, which genres do you like best, and what (if you had to choose) is your absolute favorite game of all time?
I currently own a PS2 and a Gamecube, with a Wii possibly getting added to that rather short list in a couple months. In the past, I've enjoyed games on (starting with the earliest) my dad's NES, my mom's ex-boyfriend's Atari 2600, a Sega Genesis I shared with my sisters (and former stepdad Jimmy) (we even had a joystick pad for it, for when we played Desert Strike), an N64 which I also shared with my sisters, (Jimmy didn't like Starfox 64 half as much as he liked Desert Strike... sadly, our Genesis went on a trip to the junkyard because of poor care on my sisters' parts) a PS2 (this one, my sister Becky took with her when she moved, so I was PS2-less for years), and last, a PS I traded our old N64 in for because I was feeling RPG-deprived.
I absolutely love RPGs, especially the Final Fantasy and Legend of Zelda series. I also love rhythm/music games such as Dance Dance Revolution, Frequency, Um Jammer Lammy and Guitar Hero. I've been a fan of Tony Hawk games since Pro Skater 2. I've loved playing fighting games ever since Mortal Kombat *has fond memories of (back, back, A) "Get over here!!"* I also like racing games, whether they feature cars, hovercrafts, hoverboards, or snowboards. I don't really like any other type of sports games... I used to play NFL Blitz, but even then, it was pretty boring to me (IMHO, they made it too easy to get a two-point conversion... BTW, if my friend Cory hadn't wanted to play that game so much, I wouldn't even know what that is.)
My favorite game, if my life and the lives of all my friends and family depended on choosing, is Thousand Arms for the Playstation. Most of you probably won't know that game, it was pretty obscure, and it's still rare to be able to find a copy (last time I played it, I had to borrow it from Becky, who got it from her boyfriend Patrick, and had to return it by Thanksgiving.) It's an RPG by Atlus about an apprentice blacksmith named Meis who must find five Holy Flames before an evil emporer can get his hands on them. It also incorporates a dating minigame (about the closest you're going to get to a Japanese dating sim released in America), which is interweaved very well into the gameplay (in order to get new spells and specials to forge into your weapons, you have to go on dates with the girls to get their intimacy level with you up.) The fighting system is... okay, but not the best I've seen (only one character can fight at a time, the other two in your party mainly sit back and watch, though, this does have its benifits. You can have one of your backup characters ready with a Cure spell in case you need it.) The boss fights are awesome, and the ending is very, very emotional. (By the way, the contest for my favorite game is a very close call between Thousand Arms, Final Fantasy VIII, and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.)
Anyway, now it's your turn. What systems do you own, what genres do you like, and what's your favorite game?
