Okay, just wanted to put this out there and see if anyone else has/is having to deal with this situation. Back when I was 17 I was stupid and went to prison for 2 years ( I live in Florida) because of this i lost my civil rights, however i qualify to have them reinstated. I sent in my request back in july of 2007 (luckily for me). Now that I am transitioning I find out that in the state of florida you have to either have or have had your civil rights reinstated to be able to do a name change. I contacted the parole commission to check on my status last month just to be told that they were still processing the June of 2007 applications and that it could take up to 6 months before they get to me (they currently are backlogged 90,000 applications). At this point even being pre-op but being on T for 9 months my birthname on my ID is becoming a major issue. Has anyone else had to deal with this in florida or anywhere else? If so any advice or whatever is greatly appreciated.

Hey man--I live in FL and I know you have to get fingerprinted before applying for name change so yeah you'll have to wait  / keep checking w. the parole folks to see when you have your rights reinstated.

You're on T...you can get a letter from your Doc stating you are doing so & have your gender marker changed on your license...I don't think you have to be post-op in FL to change your marker but I'm not totally sure about that.

You CAN change your  gender marker with just a Dr. letter on a passport, if you have one. You'd still have your birth name but the correct marker...still its a step in the right direction.

Seriously, with FL name change costing $400 +, you may want to get a passport for $80!

Cheers Bro.

thanks for the reply dude. In florida you have to have the SRS letter to change your ID, unfortunately having no civil rights I can't get a passport lol. So I guess it's back to the waiting game. Being patient sucks, ecspecially when my birthname is so undeniably female, so far been accused of having a fake ID and identity theft lol. Funny thing is that I recently had to go to court and even with my birthname completely listed on the records and everything saying "miss", the judge and lawyer both referred to me as "sir" and "Mr.", the judge even asked me what my parents were thinking giving a boy such a female name lol. So hopefully I get the same judge when it's time for my name change.

I hope they rush that man. You are right you have to have top surgery to change your license here. I have an old work photo ID that I keep for backup purposes when people question me, do you have anything like that?

Even if you could, having a serious criminal record will keep most countries from permitting you entry.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...
