You see, this nine-year army veteran, who we'll call 'Greg' and who asked that his face not be shown, is currently going through an emotional and physical transition, a sex change that will take him from a female soldier to a male soldier.

"I'll go forward with my surgeries as much as possible. The lower surgery, the sexual reassignment surgery - I don't see it happening in the near future. Chest surgery, though, shouldn't be a big issue."

Before changing his name six months ago, his unit knew him as a woman even though he was taking hormones and had facial hair.

Hey LIT,

Just jumped in today and saw this. I have been busy to the point of insane, so have not been around much. Taking a break from things, thought I would look in and see how things are going.

In regard to your post... It is really ashame that the US is still so afraid of sex, sex identity and anything that musters fear in them ( collectively speaking)!  In Britian back in 1999 this was all resolved!
If you transition in the arm forces, you stay in the arm forces and ALL of your medical needs are covered, in their opinion it is a medical issue and that is all. Not moral, not mental, not anything other than a medical need.  What "Greg" is going through is in my opinion is an opression of his basic human rights!

Peace,
Taylor
