I should be able to apply for my GRC later on this year. (Though Ive been living full time way over two years, my clinic consider my RLE to start after time with them) but hopefully soon after getting my GRC I can change my birth certificate!

I was just wondering if anyone knows about CRB checks? Ive had quite a few done, as I worked at different places with children etc. I have no problem in terms of criminal offences or anything, its just, I have to "out" myself everytime to explain what Ive written in the section with "previous names". Especially since Id had 4 different surnames before I even changed to my present, male name. So I have to write my old name 4x, with each surname, and my current name.
Once I get my GRC and change my birth certificate, will I be able to get round NOT putting any of my old names and avoiding "outing" myself? Does anyone have any experience of this?

Actually you will STILL be obliged to put all you old names on any CRB check.

I am sorry to have to break it to you, but the gender recognition act, into which I had direct input, specifically excludes criminal records from its provisions on non disclosure.

HOWEVER - the good news is that even before you have a GRC you don't have to put all the information in the "open form" There is a procedure agreed with the CRB board that you place all the gender non conforming names in a sealed envelope and send them to a special person within the organisation who deals with all Transsexual applications.

The information is then checked and verified but is NOT disclosed to the person originally requesting the check unless there is a problem revealed.

So you should be able to fill in a CRB form without outing yourself even now.
