I was wondering if there are other people that had to leave home in order to get srt and how did you deal with it? I personaly had to move to the big city (Helsinki) over 700km away from my home and I'm taking it badly. Where I used to live there was just forest, hardly any people, 90 spread over an area of 70 square kilometers, and lots of animals around like elks, wolfs, bears, rabbits, otters, birds, etc. Now where I live it's just appartmentbuildings, cars and people and the only other animals here are dogs and pidgeons that take dumps on the sidewalks...

   As far as I know, the OLD Standards of Care mandated complete separation from one's family in order to begin transition. Something tells me that your need to move has to do with the standards in your country.

   There is no such requirement here in the US.. I think they did away with it in the 1980's. Ironically, though, I'm beginning to understand why it was done in the past. I'm in my 5th year of transition (just finishing up) and almost all the stress I've encountered had to do with my family and close friends. I wish I could afford to move away now... and never have to deal with anyone who knew "him."

I had to move because it is more than a day travel from my house to the hospital, it would mean that I'm gone 3 days per week and I've got a dog, he can't walk by himself.

There are no such laws here. You actualy get 80% of your travelcost to and from the hospital back from the state if you're unemployed, sudent or on minimum wage.

I transitioned and had SRS in 1974 but I don't know what "srt" is.

Back then, it was assumed that everyone who had SRS wanted to live a normal life (as a normal woman) so it made sense to start over again in a different place.

I had no choice - my parents disowned me.

I moved to Orlando and became just me 100% of the time 4 days later. I really like having friends here who know nothing of him besides pictures they've seen. Even then, they have a hard time thinking of that person as me. More like my brother. The feeling is addictive and a large part of the reason why I scuttled my plan to move on to NYC.
