Hello all! I hope everyone is having a great week!

I have a question, and I must admit it's for a paper I'm writing. In my Composition II class we're having to write a persuasive paper and I, of course, chose something way to complex! haha! I'm trying to explain why transgendered people deserve to have insurance aid them in transitioning since it is the medical solution to Gender Identity Dysphoria, and since the procedures on cisgendered people would be covered. I have to "prove" my stance and adress counter arguments, which is the more difficult part, since I can't see many reasons why people shouldn't be allowed insurance aid.



Does anyone know of any websites that could offer information on this? Does anyone have opinions they would like to share?

  The American Medical Association's resolution #122 is probably the best resource for advocating insurance coverage for GID treatment. Last I knew, there were two US insurance companies that had certain policies to cover treatment for GID: Cigna and Aetna.

   I think that the best angle you could take would be talking about the money insurance companies spend on Transsexual people's symptoms as a result for their treatment NOT being covered. For instance, my family is helping me with the cost of SRS. The delay in my treatment has cost 2 inpatient stays in mental hospitals, two months worth of outpatient treatment and an emergency room treatment for attempted self-castration. The cost of SRS would have been half of all I've had to claim.
