Hey there everyone!  I've been haunting the chat for a little while now, so I thought I'd join the fun on the forums too.  Maybe I did it in the wrong order   ;D

I'm a non-op transgendered woman.  Like so many non-ops my situation is complicated, but I make the best of it i can :)

I'm a medical student, which is the main reason my transition is on indefinite hold.  Being TG in medical school doesn't sound so hard, but transitioning while in medical school...  well lets just say transitioning while spending 8 hours of every day with the same 200 people would earn a very undesirable celebrity.  So I get to do the double-life thing.  I enjoy 8 hours of manly life (cargo shorts, burping, and talking about... tools or something) followed by a nice day of being myself.  It sounds worse than it is, though it does grate sometimes.  Hey look at that--some of you might be hearing from me for the first time and I'm already complaining!  I promise to try and keep that to a minimum from here on out!

I try to log into chat as much as I can but time has been short lately.

it's hard to have enough time to be on the forums and in chat... specially at the same time =/

Darn TGBot keeps on markin me as afk :(

Being marked as AFK doesn't keep you from watching what is being said in the room.  It also doesn't keep you from responding anytime you want and immediately having TGBot mark you as back.

I know, but there's sooo many people that just leave their chat running that it's hard to tell who's there and who's not. I also can't just leave it running all the time for security reasons around my house or work (or when I'm on my cell phone).

Just one of those things, if I have the time I chat (more or less pick on flan).

Sometimes I'll log in and just have nothing to add to the current conversation.

Just in an odd mood lately I guess.

Aw, thank all of you so much!  It's a real relief to talk with people in the same situation as myself.  If you're asking if I had to do much college before med school, yep!  I did my undergrad in chem and bio.  If you're asking if I have long to go, yep!  Two more years in med school and I get to start my residency, which means another 4-7 years of really difficult learning.

My avatar is me, so thank you!!   :D

Hey Dil! i am really glad you are here in the forums... It is a great place.  I just got a Bachelors in Science in Bio and Chem, and applied to med school but did not get in this year; will be applying next year though.  it is a bummer to hear they aren't too accepting of GID at school, but I think being a doctor will put you in a position where you have the ability to successfully and more comfortably transition (e.g. Christine McGinn or Marci Bowers).  Anyways, glad to have you hear girl :)

Aww, I'm sorry to hear you didn't get in this year, but way to show your stuff and keep trying!  The process of getting into med school was, at least in the short term, more frustrating than any gender issues I've dealt with.  Even with a fair MCAT I applied to (if memory serves) 25 M.D. schools in the country, and only got interviews with the in-state schools which I assume don't screen for anything but a zipcode.  Not encouraging.  My pre-med advisor suggested I apply at a couple D.O. schools, and my first choice accepted me in next-to-no time.  I guess what I'm saying is be sure you explore all your options.

Also, I tell everyone not to put too much stock in the studentdoctor.net forums.  They're for making you crazy and unhappy.   >:(
