Well, today I'm so excited! The last few days/weeks I've not been excited, just been like "it's only an appointment... nothing major is going to happen at the first one", but now it's here I'm very excited!  ;D

In 30 minutes I'm setting off to go to London and about 5 hours from now I'll be sat having a lovely chat with Dr Andrew Davies! :)

Hopefully everything will go well in the appointment :)

Don't really know what else to write, just wanted to post something about it!! :)

Hugs,
Sarah

Thanks for the replies everyone!! :)

Finally I'm home and can post all about my appointment!

It went really well. I was a bit nervous about seeing Dr Andrew Davies because of some bad things I'd heard about him, but he was really lovely (and very good looking too lol! ok ok, I need to stop getting crushes on every guy I see!!).

I got there really early, so went for a coffee and a plate of chips in some little cafe thing.. After that I still had loads of time spare so went to the pub across the road from the GIC and had another coffee in there. When I got to my appointment, I saw 2 men in there very smartly dressed... I must be blind, because it took me ages to realise they were police officers!! They had someone with them who I assume was a prisoner since he was handcuffed to one of them! I didn't even notice it for like ages.

When I got into my appointment I was a bit nervous at first. I was expecting it to be a lot like my appointment with the local psych the second time, where he just asked me tons of awkward questions and seemed a bit aggressive with his approach. Dr Davies was very nice though and when he did need to ask some awkward questions he had a way of asking them which made me feel really comfortable discussing it with him.

He started out by asking about my family. We then talked about who in my family knows I'm trans so far. After that he started asking about my history, like if I was bullied in school, when I realised I was trans, if I dressed at all when I was younger, etc. After that he started asking about relationships. He asked if I was interested in men or women. I explained to him that I had a female partner until recently but things never really worked sexually between us, and I don't think I was ever very attracted to her. I explained to him that I'm fairly certain I like men. He asked me in what way I imagine men, like if it is the physical acts or if it's the way they would treat me. I think it's a bit of both really. I explained to him that when I imagine myself with a man, its often a big strong guy pinning me down and making out with me. I was so shy telling him about it, and went as red as a beetroot!! He found it funny and was like "Don't worry, I wont note down the specifics!" lol.

After that we discussed hormone use. I'd already told him at the start of the appointment about self medicating, and that my GP was aware of it. I told him what I was taking, the dosages and where I'm getting them from. He said he doesn't have any problem with me self medicating, but hormones aren't something they would recommend until after the second appointment. Anyway, I explained to him that my GP said she'd be willing to prescribe to me, but wanted me to wait until after my appointment to ask him for advice about dosages (She seemed to think the oestrogen was too high, which it isn't!!). He said that he wouldn't recommend that she prescribes to me, but ultimately it's up to her if she prescribes or not.

Anyway, after that the appointment was over I got my second appointment! It's on the 23rd of September, with Dr Stuart Lorimer. He said that if I'm full time by then, then I'll definitely be prescribed hormones. I imagine within 6 months I should definitely be full time!! :)

Hugs,
Sarah

Sarah,

That sound great, congratulations!  I haven't been to Charing Cross yet, but have been to see a private GP in Lond (Dr Richard Curtis).  TBH I was pretty scared of what Charing Cross would be like given all the stories I'd heard, but it sounds like it's got better.

I'm going to register for a referral with my NHS GP, but carry on with the private one in the meantime.

Siobhan.
