I tried it out on the back of my left hand and up the arm a bit past my watch. It didn't hurt very much at all although it is still a little red but is clearing quickly.  I can't wait to use it on my legs too! I was going to use it on my face too but am having second thoughts now but I already know it will be some time before I can afford to get Laser/electro. For use on the face my main concern is my neck and jaw-thats where my razors eat my face up the worst.

Edit: I just finished doing my arms and belly-this is going to be great if I don't wind up full of ingrown hairs. Pain level is not too bad so this will work for me.

I bought the Emjoi AP-18 from Amazon and spent 3 hours on my legs, arms, and butt. I didn't get as much as I had hoped, and the pain was so intense my toes were completely numb when I stopped. I've been homeless for the past week though so I haven't had the opportunity to use it more. What I like most about it is it runs straight out of the wall socket so it won't die half-calf like a battery operated torture device epilator might.

I'm considering checking into a motel room for a night just s I can use their wall socket for as long as it takes. Bonus: get to wash my hair and even shave my face. So pathetic :embarrassed:

You have to be ready for the pain. I was curious about the neck area so I tried it on a place my razor cuts every time I use it. The neck is SO MUCH MORE SENSITIVE!! The pain level there was EXTREME-needless to say I couldn't take much of that. So I guess I'll continue to do this area by hand.

I got everything off my arms, chest and stomach. It feels great.

I have finished the upper left leg and groin-no problems with pain. Yes, this thing is gonna work well. Good thing I have a private place.

I've tried the emjoi, braun, and panasonic and they all work equally as well. I don't think you ever really get used to the pain though, either you can tolerate it or you can't, I'm thankful to be able to. And yes, I do get periodic ingrown hairs and they seem to be the same hair every time. So I guess that's just how I'm made. My most sensitive areas are my knees and my hiney. I find that if you start in a small circle and work outward gradually it hurts less ovverall.

For the life of me I can't understand why these things have two speed settings, does anyone ever use the slower setting?

This epilator does get most hair off of you with little effort apart from pain tolerence control. Hopefully it won't hurt as much the next time around. I have learned that a little pain is ok, going slowly hurts less but takes more time, this thing is almost everything I wanted.
I got curious one night and tried it on another place on my face. To my surprise it did not hurt as much as on the neck and if I did small circles and only did a few hairs at a time it was easier to control. It makes me feel good having a small part of my face smooth in the morning. Small steps forward = progress.

To my surprise it did not hurt as much as on the neck...

I noticed when I was having my first laser session that different parts of the face have very different density of nerve endings. My neck/underchin didn't feel a thing, my cheeks near the mouth were medium, but my cheeks near my cheekbones were almost as sensitive as my upper lip.

I am very sensitive on one side of my face-much more than on the other. I just finished plucking my face clean the old fashioned way-one at a time. Maybe next year I can get laser and Electro. For now using it where it doesn't hurt too much- this epilator rocks!

I just finished my first epilation of regrowth hairs and there was hardly any pain at all-even my underarms-not much pain at all.
Although I am disappointed that I can't use it on my face, I am pleased with it's performance so far on all other body hair. I hope the hair is thinner when it comes back again.
