Devyn

Earlier this morning in homeroom, this girl asked me about my name changing on facebook, and I said that I felt like it (I didn't want to have to come out to twenty people. I hate attracting attention.)

But later today, she did one of those "tbh" things and I liked her status so she posted something she liked about me on my profile and then when I commented, this was our conversation:

Her: Why does it say "Devyn *insert last name here* commented on his wall post"?

Me: Because that's what it says?

Her: Why his?

Me: Because I prefer that.

Her: Ohh. I didn't know that.

Me: Most people don't.

Her: Why didn't you tell meee?

Me: Should I have??

Her: yeaaah!

Me: Oh, well, I'll remember that. haha. I mean, we don't really talk to a lot.

Her: I know, but you know you can tell me anything. :3

Me: Alright. :3

SO NICE. That made my day. I've never met someone so chill about it. I might have to hear her ask me about it tomorrow though. I don't mind though. About 99% of the people that see me everyday do know, or they assume I'm biologically male (AND THEN SOMEONE DECIDES IT WOULD BE OKAY TO OUT ME). But there are a handful that haven't heard about me.

Sorry. I just had to post about this event.

That's awesome man. Its so awesome when someone is nice and encouraging and it just makes your day like that!

Actually last night I had something similar happen. I was having a really ->-bleeped-<-ty day before an old friend I hadn't seen in about 6 months (before I started coming out to everyone) called me while I was out to dinner. He was a little drunk but I was glad to hear from him. I picked up the phone and he was like "Vincent! Long time no see, buddy!"

I was a little speechless. I hadn't even gotten the chance to directly tell him about me being transgendered. Last time he knew me it was by my birthname. But he had seen on my facebook (from a post I made. since facebook is stupid and denied my name change.) where I was now referring to myself as Vincent. He congratulated me on my new name, said he could tell I had been working out by my pictures, and that he wanted to hang out soon.

Needless to say this made my day. I was in a great mood after that. It makes me wonder if people like him and people like that girl realize how much a little kindness like that means to people.

Wow, Devyn, that's awesome :D

now I'm thinking that maybe I should create a facebook just so I can make my gender "male" and people will put that and the way I dress together and figure it out so I don't have to tell them.  I'm so not good at telling people.

Jeh

Awesome. I'm glad for you.

I changed my name on facebook and someone asked me about it so I told them I was transgendered and they were good about it. I just came out to some friends and they already knew because of the name change.

Lol, I came out to everyone who I didn't tell personally on facebook too. Changed my name, gender and bio to 'Changing into a guy, if you don't like it, get out.' all in one go, nobody asked me about it, but everyone started calling me Max and using less female terms when talking to me, so I'm pretty sure it got across :P

And dude, that's so awesome! The people who will accept you *snap* just like that, are so few and far between, that it's a really precious and awesome thing when you find one. She sounds great  ;D

Ha-ha it sounds easy but when I did that people were still oblivious. I picked the name Parker and changed everything to male and they were still shocked when I came out. Sometimes  people cannot see what's right in front of their face if they don't want to!
