So here's the problem....

When I'm just out and about I don't know if it's my voice that is giving me away, or if it is something else. It's gotten to the point where I'm read male 50% of the time, if that.  I'm a little disappointed to say the least. I don't purposely try to talk low (fear of sounding "fake" or sounding like a woman trying to talk like a man) so I just try to let the T do all the work with my voice naturally. Not sure how much it's helping. I notice if I speak quieter I tend to be read more as male but I'm trying not to force anything that doesn't want to happen on it's own if you get what I'm saying.

Idk. Tonight I went to karaoke and my damned cracking voice butchered "Behind Blue Eyes" and when I sang "What a Wonderful World" my voice was deeper than Louis Armstrong! I'm talking Leonard Cohen deep! I mean, wtf is going on? How long will this voice shifting phase last? I mean dang...I started T at the beginning of January this year....

I'm in the same boat my friend. My T date was Jan 5th and I still have a problem with my voice cracking from time to time. My friends make fun of my for it. Saying I sound like a guy going through puberty(haha)...I have yet to try Karaoke and I miss it, because music is my passion. I  have a brother(nother transguy) who has been on T for almost 2 years and his voice has just recently started to level out so I think we have a ways to go my friend. Hang in there!!

You guys are lucky, i really haven't even had a voice change yet and started in January - my voice dropped all of about 1-2 notes.. and that was it.

I started T in October and my voice is still shifting and dropping.  It's especially noticeable when I sing in the middle of my range, between my chest voice and my head voice.  I think it can take about a year to really settle, and even then there can still be some changes.

You are living what every adolescent boy has had to live during their first teenage years. Your voice is in transition, and any stand up comedian can tell you that this is a phase that is usually embarrassing, transsexual or cissexual.

I'm not on T yet but have to deal with my voice cracking too. Don't know if it's any consolation, but I know cisguys who's voices crack well into their 30s & 40s. Not consistently, but it still cracks sometimes.

Oh yes, it's quite embarrassing to say the least, but I'm just going with the flow. I'm just a little sad because I can't sing how I normally used to. I think it's cool to hit Leonard Cohen's range, but at the same time it's a little strange hearing these deep sounds come out of me. Cool, but weird!

Maybe yours will happen later....or maybe you just havent noticed the changes yourself? Male voices are totally varied, but I do wish my speaking voice was lower. Either way, according to the last poster in this thread, your voice could change well into your 30s! Dang! I find that fascinating...

I started T Feb 15th and my voice has not changed at all. Hopefully soon our voices will drop. It's frustrating isn't it?

that is good to hear, I am 7 months and hope to get a bit deeper

Nope, it hasn't. People comment on it and how it hasn't relaly changed.. other then the occaisonal day where I am a few notes lower.. but that's just likely due to sickness. I know some people are guessing my voice just wont change as it's already as low as most ftm's get on T.

I can't hit the high notes yet, either.
But it's ok. In trade, my voice now sounds more like what I heard in my head when I was younger.
It's like a new tool to play with and learn how to use. Am having fun with it.

I started in November and I've been cracking majorly since maybe January/February. Still not being read as male and my voice hasn't reached the "raspy" masculine qualities yet. My vocal range that I can control is maybe an octave and a half/two octaves and it's the lowest end of my range where as before I would sing usually in my upper range.

I'm starting to wonder if it doesn't have something to do with how deep your voice is to begin with. I've found that the guys I know with really high pitched voices changed much faster than those that started with deeper than average.

I wonder if this might have less to do with how fast people's voices are changing and more to do with how noticeable it is.  For instance, my voice was on the lower end prior to starting T, and my voice started changing pretty quickly.  However, it wasn't something I really noticed or paid much attention to, mostly because my voice wasn't something that really precluded me from being read as male, so I wasn't overly concerned about it.  Therefore, I didn't really talk about it or anything.  However, a guy who started out with a higher voice might really be waiting anxiously for his voice to change, and when it finally does, he might post about it or talk about it more, and others may be more likely to notice it as well.  Clearly, I haven't done any studies on this or anything, so I'm not going to dispute your claim, but I just wanted to add another possible dimension to the picture.

@Elijah and others--Sixteen or seventeen months on a full dose, I started cracking again and went into baritone range. I've gotten a couple of small shifts since then--just little changes that nobody else would notice--but that suggests to me that more change is still possible. After all, cis men's voices do evolve over the years, so I expect that ours will, too.

true true, a 20 year old mans voice is different from a 40 year olds voice

im no where near getting testosterone but i my voice cracks if i try singing high XD but ive always had quite a deep voice as a kid

I went from a very high girly voice to pretty deep in just 6 weeks on T, lol. I think you're probably right.

I know this is an old post, but just wondering if any of you are still around that weren't experiencing much change in your voice and if so how you're doing now?

I know it's early days for me and anything's still possible but I'm worrying more and more as nearly 7 weeks on T and no change whatsoever in my voice. (Before anyone suggests it might be that I can't tell it's changed, I have recordings and there's defo no change. I also sing and so know what my range is and the songs I sing haven't altered at all).

Seven weeks is way too early to tell if you will, or will not have any changes.

My voice started changing around the ten week mark. Yours will likely start changing anytime soon.
