I went to the doctor today and while we were suggesting options for where to get my testosterone and she suggested a compounding pharmacy. I had never heard of one before and she tried to explain it to me but I'm not 100% sure she knew what she was talking about. So I've come here to ask you guys if you've ever used a compounding pharmacy, if your insurance covers it (I'm pretty sure my insurance doesn't cover T period but better safe than sorry), and how you feel about using a pharmacy not in your state. The ones she suggested to me where Strohecker's which is in Oregon I believe and Apothecary Shop which is in Ohio. Do you guys know of any others? Also does the price difference really make up for the inconvenience? I know my T would be $110 for a 10mL vial at my pharmacy and at Strohecker's it would be around $60 with shipping so that's a pretty good difference.

A compounding pharmacy basically makes your prescription in house instead of using mass produced medications. They can also make medications in different forms if needed. For instance, if someone was getting testosterone and was allergic to sesame oil it could be compounded using another oil.
I can't use Strohecker's because I live in one of the states they can't ship to (VA) but I did go with another compounding pharmacy called Women's International Pharmacy for my T. I paid about $95.00 (including shipping, 2 5ml vials of Test-c and 10 syringes with 23g needles) for my order. I am going to see if the Apothecary Shop can ship to VA and possibly switch to them because of cost. I had a great experience with Women's International and will continue to use them if a cheaper pharmacy cant ship to me. I don't think using a compounding pharmacy is inconvenient at all. My doctor sent the script, they called and got my info, shipped my T and I can reorder online. All I had to do was walk to my mailbox.
I don't know about insurance because I am uninsured but I am sure you could find out from your provider.

I use Stroheckers, and it's ridiculously easy.  I just mail my prescription in (or your doctor can fax it in), and when it arrives, they call me, confirm my address, and get my credit card information, and then they ship it right away.  I live only one state over, so I get it really quickly, within a couple of days after talking to them on the phone.  They send needles, syringes, and alcohol pads with your T, too.  I'm not sure if my insurance would cover it, but right now I can afford to pay $60 every 4-5 months, and I'd really just rather not get the insurance folks involved.  Plus, I've heard some people talk about how they can only get 1 mL vials when using insurance, and I feel like that would be really obnoxious.

Strohecker's doesn't accept insurance. If you want to submit the bill to insurance after that fact, you can try.

Thanks so much for the info guys. I think I will go through Stroheckers. How long does it normally take to get your stuff? I live in Georgia so I'm  about as far away from it as I can get and still be in the continental US. >.>

Strohecker's ships via USPS Priority, so coast to coast, the longest it should take is 3 days.  I'm in Ohio and I got my stuff from them in 2 days.  They're great, really.  At $10 a month, I didn't even think about involving insurance (it makes sense that they don't accept it, for that price); I spend more on energy drinks! XD
