They're there, you just can't see them on you own posts  :)

It's so that you don't applaud yourself, no one can see their own. Don't feel dumb, I couldn't for the life of me figure it out either until I saw someone ask after they started doing it a while back.

You probably need a certain amount of posts.  If I remember, the major milestones on this forum are at 15 and 50 posts... so it's probably one of those.

Not sure, but I think you have to have a certain amount of posts before you can Applaud/Smite someone  :)

By the way, Barbara, no buttons may be because you're a guest - you have to register to have a profile first, and then start accumulating posts before you can add an avatar, give reputation points etc.

When this first came up there were no buttons on it, perhaps they stop working at some point, and only come back if the thread is re-activated.  Keeps people from going back and smiting every post of mine they didn't like.

I give applauds from time to time but I don't bother with the smite button... I just don't feel right about handing out smites  :P
