The last few times I have met someone new they asked me if I'd done laser yet. (Unfortunately not...

)When I said no, they all seem surprised because they say my face is so smooth. So, by request, I will post my shaving method.
Step One: SoftenI like to sit in a steamy tub or shower for a little bit before starting. You can go ahead and wash your hair if you like.
Step Two: ExfoliateI take a mixture of Johnson's Nighttime Baby Bath and some Apricot Scrub with salicylic Acid. I find that using the Scrub straight is a little harsh for my face. But this works great and there are generics available which are just as good. Basically, the smoother your face is, the better your shave will come out.
Step Three: LatherDon't sell this step short. Get some really good cream, you will be glad you did. Look for any of the Aveeno brand shaving creams, they are quite good. Bath and Body Works also makes some great ones in the men's Department which have aloe in them. If you see it, buy it because they do not always have it. But don't skimp on this step. Cheap creams do not last as long in the shaving process. Try some and find what works best for you.
Step 4: FeelYour face will feel different on different days. Get to know which way the grain goes. You will need to shave both with and against it to get close. Different hairs are in different growth cycles at different times, so your face will change.
Step 5: ShaveWell... what to say here? I almost always shave in the bathtub and I have a mirror there for that purpose. I find that electrics do not work on me very well at all. I use a Gillette Fusion, a 5 bladed razor that vibrates. Use what works for you best. Be sure to rinse the blade often and always use a sharp one. You want to shave by feel, not by sight. Small scratchy patches can remain which do not show at first. But if you can feel it, you will soon be able to see it. For most of us, the corners of our mouths cause special problems. Experiment with your tongue to see what stretches the skin the tightest. The tighter the skin, the more the hair stands out and the better the shave. In that area hairs will grow many different directions. I shave in the shape of an asterisk and work my way around the area in a small circle on both sides. Be sure to stay well lubricated at all times. Also remember to never press the razor down hard into the skin, as this will surely cause scrapes. The object here is to let the razor do the work. Continue until things feel smooth all over.
Step 6: MoisturizeInstead of using anything alcohol based, I use a moisturizer as aftershave. My favorite is Aveeno Positively Radiant. It is not terribly expensive and comes tinted or untinted, as you may wish. It leaves the skin unbelievably nice. As an added bonus, it has SPF30 which is good protection for your skin.
Step 7: ReevaluateThis is very important. Hairs take a little time to stand back out. As soon as you use the moisturizer, the spots that are still rough will be very easy to feel. Try it, you will see. This is where you can take your razor and very carefully touch up any spots still feeling rough. If you want ultra smooth skin, do not skip this step. Also do not overdo it, as you do not want to draw blood. Just use very light pressure, against the grain until it is smooth.
Step 8: ReapplyPut a little more moisturizer where you had to reshave.
That is it. I do this every day. If you shave like this, your face will be quite smooth for a number of hours.
Best Wishes!
