I have a question about women's shoe sizes.  How do you figure out what your shoe size is?  I am a size 6 in men's shoes.  I heard somewhere that I would just be one size higher in women's sizes.  That would make me a size 7.

That is the general rule, but the best way to tell is to try some shoes on and figure out your size by trial and error.  I am in the US, my mens size is 11, my womens size is 12.

Depends on where you are, U.S. sizes are closer to 2 sizes larger. men's I'm a 8 1/2 and womens I'm 10 1/2

It should be between 1 1/2 - 2 sizes larger than the men's size

do not forget that some of the difference will be associated with width...the average men's shoe tends to be a D-width while the average women's shoe is a B-width.  If one already has a narrow foot, then the difference may only be a single size.

Anecdotal evidence also suggests that the foot may shrink the longer one is on HRT.  Over the past 20-ish years, I have seen my shoe size drop to roughly an 8 1/2 where I used to be a 9 or 9 1/2 depending on style and materials.  The most recent pair of topsiders I got from Bass were actually a size 8...but I realize at some point they will get too floppy because of the leather stretching out.

For years I was a men's 10-1/2, then 11s were more comfortable. I went to a store recently and had them use their messuring gauge. Make sure to use the woman's gauge or side - they differ; it came in closer to a woman's 11-1/2, but usually above 10s they don't have half sizes. I've not been on hormones long enough to benefit from shrinkage. I have something to look forward to!

My shoe size ranges between 10 and 11 in women's, depends on the shoe style, or how well made the shoe is, and some companies just can't measure properly, and this is the same for clothing, I'm usually a medium, sometimes a large in ladies' tops again depending on the style, but tried on some items recently from one maker, and even the x-large I could barely get on me, and these are misses not juniors. Best thing to do, try 'em on. I'm also all for comfort, shoe isn't comfortable the moment I slip my foot in, it comes right back off and back on the shelf it goes, though I do remember a day when I was first trying to come out as a woman, being ever desperate I was I wanted to look good so dealt with the pain of uncomfortable shoes and other stuff.

I hate all of you! :P

I am a men's 12,  and have to find a woman's size 13. If I can actually find a pair that aren't hooker boots, a cute pair of flats is well over 50 dollars. Oh how I love being 6'2...

US format men's is US format women's minus two points, approximately. This is only lenght though, as standard men's shoes are wider than standard women's shoes.

I wear around 7 and a half to 8 in men, around 9 and a half to 10 in women (depends on the shoe mostly)

you're really gonna hate me then. :P :P   I'm pushing 6'3", but wear a mens 10.  So, depending on make and style, I'm wearing size 11 or 12 b/m womens.  I really do wish you good luck in your shoe shopping though :)

It can be really weird. I have some old running shoes that are a men's 9 1/2 and they are pretty much the right size. And the everyday men's shoes I wear (I am not out yet) are 9. But I can squeeze into a women's 9 and 10 is comfortable. It makes no sense to me.

Best bet is to be measured at a store, that way width and length is taken into account. Coming from from the reverse perspective, I am usually a men's 5-6 and a women's 7-8. I have a hard time finding finding shoes that don't light up and come with Spiderman stickers (not such a bad thing lol). But the online resources listed here at Susan's are really good, if you strike out in-store. I also wear a lot of converse. They're in unisex sizes; come in masculine, feminine, and gender-neutral styles; and I just like them. If they're age/context appropriate and you like them, you'll always be able to find your size.

If it makes you feel better, I know lots of ciswomen who wear women's sizes 10, 11, 12, and even 13. It's not that uncommon, even though in-store inventory doesn't usually account for this in department stores and the like.
