I was a bit surprised when I found out. I'm an avid lover of Iranian culture, language and history too.

Kia Ora Casee,

::)  The saddest thing about the transsexual situation in Iran is, there are quite a few effeminate "homosexual" males and masculine "homosexual" females who because they fear for their lives have opted to have reassignment surgery, only to regret it later...

I remember the Iranian President on a visit to the US and speaking at one of the university's there was asked about the homosexual situation in Iran and he answered them by saying "There are no homosexuals in Iran!" in other words in a round about sort of way he was saying  "If they are caught they can either opt for surgery or be put to death!"...

So looking on the bright side, if one suffers from gender dysphoria in Iran, there's a chance the government will help pay for ones surgery...But if you're homosexual......
