(If this is in the wrong area I'm sorry, I'm kind of out of it at the moment)

I've wanted to see this movie since it first came out, I've always been a huge Robin Williams fan. Ben bought it yesterday and we sat down to watch it, not expecting to sob, and definitely not expecting for it to hit home so closely.

If you've never seen it, and plan to, don't watch the video because its' from the very end (Or at least, don't watch the whole thing). Ben suggested I post this scene on here though, because it hit me. It summed up how I felt perfectly. the majority of the movie did honestly, but the speech bit in particular...it was weird. Of all the things that'd be relevant to how it feels being trans, I never expect it to be a sci-fi movie. That whole "need to be human" thing, that whole...immersion in something you want to be part of so badly, knowing that you might never have that...makes me realize why I've always been so intrigued and attracted to androids and such. Explains why Data is my favorite character off Star Trek too, heh (That, and Brent Spiner looks a lot like my boyfriend lol).

So anyway, here's the clip. Made me cry. I was curious to see what you all thought of it.

It's weird, isn't it? I cried so damn hard, which pissed me off. I loved it, I think it was an exceptionally good movie but I don't think I'll be watching it again anytime soon. It was kind of funny, and cute, how hard Ben "oh sh**"d when I pointed out how closely it related to the trans situation.

The movie 'The Bicentennial Man' was based on the book 'The Bicentennial Man' by Isaac Asimov  and was specifically written for the celebration of 200 years since the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.

The Bicentennial Man was a novella story and formed part of the Robot Series.  Isaac Asimov was and still is one of  my all time favourite authors as I grew up.  The movie is the only one that closely depicts the feelings and struggles that we go through.

Rest in peace Isaac Asimov, you gave me so much joy in my life.

@Sarah B, I still need to read some of his work. Ben's a huge fan of his, unfortunately doesn't have any of his books anymore.

I bawled my eyes out when watching that film when I was a kid. I guess it hit close to home for me as well.

No, not yet, but I can only imagine.I'm only on the 10th episode of the first season unfortunately 'cause we're watching them via youtube.

Bicentennial Man is a terribly underrated movie. Robin Williams seemed to have had a true golden age a decade ago that culminated with 1 hour photo. Not as if that movie is relevant to us but it still is a mesmerizing watch and I don't care who you are or what your life or wants are; it definitely hits a fear of us all.

Agh, Robin Williams...he's just amazing.
Ever since I saw "What Dreams May Come" as a kid I realized he's probably one of the most under-appreciated actors ever.

wow i saw this years ago when it was new to video...ya know...vhs tapes. and thought it was good but really long, now i get the identification with it and it's like watching the end to a whole new movie i saw but...didn't see. that made no sense. if i were to sit through the whole thing start to finish now i would probably ball my eyes out too. hey i have Artificial Intelligence. i can watch that!

I know, right! He's creepy as hell as Lore! I never expected it! I'm so used to adorable, clueless little Data and then BAMF here comes psycho-crazy Lore.

Noah, I've still never seen AI (unfortunately). If it's still there next time I'm at FYE I might pick it up. Your post made sense to me, though.

Artificial Intelligence has much to recommend it, but the ending is just ghastly.

Er....in which way? Badly done or bad things happening? Bicentennial Man had a pretty horrific second half, it was just depression on top of depression on top of life-crushing emotional "ouch".

i know what Arch means about AI but i don't want to give anything away.

Aw, poop. Well that's alright then, I think we're gonna be buying it either this week or next week, so I'll see it soon enough.

I remember seeing this title a while back but didn't want to read into it until I watched this movie again.

I decided to watch it today for the second time, the first time I saw it was in theatres when I was really young. I agree that it is an underrated movie, as well as AI. I didn't cry while watching this one but I can't seem to help it in AI hahah.

I like it because it's shows how someone is 'programmed' to be one way but feels another without it being some joke. People don't understand it but they don't seem to make fun of him either.
