Since I am well along on HRT/RLE I think, as an experiment only, you understand, that I am going to do my female makeup and hair and lightly padded undergarment (bra), and then, put on some of my remaining male clothing just to see IF I can get away with wearing the totally mismatched sloppy nerd junk that I have and see what the visual effect is. I am going to guess that I probably will just look like something that is clearly a caricature of NEITHER gender, just a sloppy non gendered individual that most people want to avoid. On the other hand, if I put on the one remaining Good looking and stylish male outfit that I posess, my hair and makeup will be complimented by the fact that it is stylish, matched and clean and pressed, and may in fact be taken as female due to the hair/makeup markers, not to mention that my female demeanor and warmth will still be evident.
The character in this cartoon wanted to be seen as a guy in a dress, and thus he was all too evident as such. I went to an event this weekend though where a large number of men were wearing "skirts" and no one considered it to be out of the ordinary, albeit, they were offset by the bag pipes and the claymores.
I do agree with the sentiment of Helen Boyd's question at the end, but that cartoon is not the "poster child" image for transgendered people. It was typical schlock cartoonism for a cheap laugh. It was a caricature of even what males can look like in male clothing.
