Kia Ora Luke & Padma,

For "me" personally the whole ethos of Buddhist practice is
"Doing "without" the Doer !" That is to "do" away with the "doer" that quite often hinders the situation...So one can [as the saying goes] just
" Go with the flow !"...
The practice that you speak of Luke is very beneficial ... When one is in pain one can also practice/meditate upon absorbing/taking on the pain/suffering that other sentient beings feel in order for them to know peace....And in doing so one will begin to realise that pain/suffering just "is" and it belongs to no one in particular...In doing so the pain/suffering lessens because your "self" is no longer attached to it...
When one "welcomes" what "is" instead of trying to push it aside, things just flow naturally in an "unobstructed" manner .... Well that's what happens for me anyway...
But like most things Luke, "practice makes perfect" but "
patience" and
"self discipline" are the keys to unlocking the Buddha nature within....
Happy Mindfulness...
