Hey everyone - I'm moving to Austin, Tx in 3 months and I was wondering if anyone knew any trans friendly endos or doctors I could use to get testosterone. I've been on T for 14 months so I'm just looking to switch doctors. If you have any suggestions I'd appreciate it.

If you already have the prescription, it should be all right, shouldn't it?

Yes but I'm moving to another city so I need to find a doctor there who will CONTINUE to write testosterone prescriptions for me.

Oh, those are not renewable?

In any case, if you have your "diagnosis" and everything, i don't think you actually still require a trans-friendly doctor at this point. I may be mistaken though.

Central Family Practice is very trans friendly. My girlfriend gets her RX there, and I will be getting mine there once I start T. Here's their website: http://www.centralfamily.com/

Thank you. I don't think Central Family Practice takes insurance. Do you know how much they cost?

It's in the website. He charges 90$ for a short visit but charged me 180$ the first time, so it could be either.
I'm also pretty sure he does take insurance. They are very nice people actually, and the receptionist is super chatty haha.

Thank you. I couldn't find how much they charge on the site. I'm glad to know they aren't ridiculously expensive.

My girlfriend's last appointment with bloodwork and a new RX cost around $230. So not bad, but not great either. Also, I THINK if you see the doctor instead of the nurse (Kate), they'll do insurance. However, Kate is awesome. We have no experience with the doctor yet...

Also, this might be weird, but I'm looking for more friends in Austin (I moved here in January 2010, so I'm still relatively new)... especially trans guy friends to kinda get advice from etc... anyone wanna like, be friends on Facebook? *awkward smile*

Okay that's good to know. I called Central Family Practice earlier to ask for their rates and the receptionist said the first appointment would be around $200 and every following appointment will be $100. That's not bad to me. I'm on my mothers insurance so when I go to my endo in Houston I only pay the $30 copay but I looked at what the amount would be WITHOUT insurance on my last bill and it said $1601.00! For one appointment! Spending around $200 isn't bad.

I will be moving to Austin for sure if I can definitely transfer from the store I'm working at in Houston to a location in Austin... and if I can get enough hours. I'm going there wednesday to ask the managers if they have any openings. I'd add you on facebook but I recently deactivated my account so I wouldn't be tempted to look at certain people from my pasts facebook pages lol. I'll probably bring it back eventually, though.

sadly cannot help with someone to prescribe T...but for the M2F's, I can say that there was at least one trans-friendly OB/GYN who I had found in the mid-90's.  I had actually found her when I was searching for lesbian-friendly practitioners and then sent a letter that outlined what I was looking for (not unlike the OP, I was looking for a continuity of care and did not want to have to keep driving to Houston every six months).
