I have a couple questions about the whole transition phase

1st, would it be better to start HRT before or after SRS? It seems right to start before, but I've read somewhere that doing so makes it more difficult for the doctor to work with during the SRS
2nd, this one is mostly towards those who had SRS. But, as a male, when you um, had an orgasm, you were able to release, but when you get the surgery, what happens? Does the feeling stay with you, does it die down, or what?

Hi Tyler,
You will be on HRT before SRS as no one will give you the letters for surgery unless you are essentially living as the woman you are.
At the time of surgery you come off HRT for period of time for bleeding control reasons. Then back on it.

As I haven't had SRS as yet I can't comment on the orgasms, but my friends have voted a big plus in that area as well.
But do talk it over with your therapist as well

Thanks Cindy, and hm, I thought you had a bit more choice on that, but, since they do take you off for awhile beforehand, that's good. Once (if) I see a therapist, I'll make sure to ask them.

Cindy beat me to the draw again!  Can only comment on the first questio, Come back in a year or so for the second! :icon_chainsaw:

The Standards of Care specify things in stages, so that people don't make irreversible decisions too soon.

The sequences are counselling, living in role full time, HRT, then SRS.  Some girls don't feel the need to complete the sequence, it's all up to the individual.

First stop a properly qualified Gender Therapist, then see where the road takes you.

Karen.

The first question has been answered, in relation to the second yes you do and it's definitely a lot better and far less messy......

Orgasms post op--Heck yeah!!!!   HRT effects sex drive more than SRS actually. My drive dropped but didn't disappear with HRT.
It actually went up a bit after SRS, which was a little irritating at first because I couldn't do anything about it until I recovered. :P

To answer some of your questions:

Almost every country that does WPATH requires you to be on HRT first before your SRS. It is part of that whole phase to make sure this is what you really want to do. I never heard of a doctor saying being on HRT prior to SRS would make the surgery more difficult.

About the sexual orgasm thing....that can actually happen before you have SRS. Some of us have our physiology kinda "switched" over during the HRT process where orgasms become female orgasms and the ability to multi orgasm is very possible. Have an orgasm in the female perspective it is like a wave of emotions going from your head down to your toes. The feeling subsides but you can be quickly aroused again.

Concerning your sexual labido, when you have been on HRT for sometime, your labido is like that of a female as well. You can pretty much turn it on as opposed to the male labido where it always seemed to be stuck on.

I might have either read it wrong, or went to a unreliable source then on that part

I've heard how female orgams are, and I would LOVE to be able to have one, male orgasms just aren't that great imo lol.

During my "shopping spree" for SRS surgeons I did run across at least two who may be the source of the HRT after SRS misdirection.  There are a couple of surgeons who do mention problems with people who have been on HRT for more than 3 years, they use the penile inversion method and do find that the penis on some patients has atrophied so that it is a problem giving depth to the neo-vagina during the surgery. It is actually a product comparison of the doctors who use penile inversion, versus those who use the scrotal flap technique, and a bit of an advertising ploy.  The problem does not happen to everyone and is not a sure thing and there are ways of dealing with the shrinkage if needed, but it was how rumors get started.  Also, as many of us that really can, would really love to have a much shorter time than three years between onset of HRT and our SRS!!

I am about a week short of two years on HRT but still pre-op, and after about 6 months on E alone, I stopped having erections, but with the stop came almost intense sensitivity to the glans, and an onset of female style horniness, about four months after that, my nipples joined the pleasant sensitivity game as well as other parts of my inner upper legs.  The release of the sensitivity is a long period of time, and hits numerous high points (orgasms) instead of the single one that I had as a male.  Your neo-clitoris will be made from the glans of the penis, and the doctors have found very good consistent ways to keep the nerve supplies intact and very sensitive within a few months or less of recovery from the surgery.
I refuse to have a war of wits with a half armed opponent!!

Wiser now about Post Op reality!!

I got about 5 or 6 posts in before the srs desires started overloading me. Yeesh, I wanted it bad enough already without being reminded how awesome it is!

I'll vouch for the orgasm switch. They're already less messy, sometimes completely dry, but the feeling is entirely different and multiples are certainly possible.

I'll also vouch for the drop in libido. Thankfully this has dropped quite significantly.
