A dermatologist can really help with acne.
Retin-A works for some people I believe, as do antibiotics on occasion.
The controversial "cure" however is Accutane - which performed a miracle for me many years ago. Nasty, scary, last-resort stuff though. But it DOES work, and I mean permanently - no more (or very minor) acne ever. If you're acne is minor, it's probably not worth the risks though.
Over the counter Benzoyl peroxide products helped me somewhat too.
Avoid touching your face with your fingers. The oil and/or bacteria would always cause a breakout wherever I touched.
Don't over-wash your face. Use a gentle cleanser like Cetaphil perhaps.
