Well, after three months I might have a job coming soon, however, to keep the risk of losing my job prematurly I will most likely have to hid the fact that i'm TG. I intend to keep growing my hair, and other cosmetic things, as well as keep up on my hormones. My plan is to change things overtime, so that eventually if they notice things, it won't be such a large logical leap for them and reduce the chances of a commotion. That's the plan at least.

One worry I have though is to hide my developing chest i'll probably have to wear my sports bra almost constently, usually I just wear it to flatten my chest for the interviews. Is this going to hamper my breast growth? Its not binding, but still, if there is an alternative, i'd like to know. But with me wearing scrubs and constently bending over patients, I fear that I won't have much choice.

Any advice yall?

How long is the probationary period?  Don't forget to talk with your union about this prior to coming out.

I wouldn't stress too much about boob hiding, worst that can happen is that you have to tell them you have gynecomastia, I'd be more warey about people noticing you're wearing a bra, without a bra and with loose clothing you'd just think I was overweight.

I would like 2 renfasize the importance of talking with ur union, they are there 2 protect your humam/employment rights in the work place.

You all guys live in america? I don't know much about american rights what so ever, all i know is that Jobs in america aren't secured by law meaning if they Fire you you have to leave right away. In germany they have to keep you another 3 months after they fire you as a secure time to still earn money and find a new job. But i think germany is a very freaky country since in america you are allowed to do your driving licence with 16 and here you are allowed to drink alcohol at 16 but do your drivers licence at 18.

Ellissa I did just what you are talking about doing. I let my hair grow continued on hormones and slowly femmed out right before there eyes. Then when I was ready I Talk to HR about my situation and asked if they could help me they did and everything worked out well.

I was in middle management and the company had 500+ employees here is the letter that I sent out to everyone before xmass break. I returned Jan2 as Kristina.

Thanks all,

So far no word back on the job, but still have my fingers crossed. Not sure if there is much unionization in the medical field, but I could be suprised. But the biggest problem is the scrubs, they are the manditory dress code for a tech. wich means that while they are loose, they are not bulky, not if my memory serves.

First I get the job, then I can worry about the next part I guess.

Elissa.......

If you're not ready to come out, then being caught in a bra will un-delay your coming out in a big hurry.  I'm not saying don't wear one, but if you do, make sure it can't be seen through the neck opening.  That may require weating a tee or tank under the scrub.  Also, and this is personal experience, beware of being patted on the back, or clasped on the shoulder.  I also learned, the hard way, to make fast defensive moves against any innocent, perposeful contact with your "chest".  One thing I've learned to do, is fold my arms casually when speaking face to face with a male.

I have found that you can get a sport bra by Bali that has skinny straps, and is very hard to feel through a shirt.  Also, from the top, it looks somewhat like the top of a wide-necked tee *maybe?*.  A size smaller than you would usually buy is perfect.  Very flattering.....makes you flatter.

For me? *shrug*....I don't allow physical contact from the guys, but all my girl friends at work hug me, and know what's under there, and why.  The popular male opinion that women can't keep a secret, is apparently not true.

Also, looking at your pic....that is you, right?....you might as well get them used to plucked eyebrows right now.  The sooner the better.  Mine are shaped, thin, and slightly arched.  I do mine, and my wife's, just the same.  It's been so long, no one remembers what mine used to look like, and now they go totally unnoticed.

Good luck, girl.  Sooner or later, just like me, you will have no choice.  You are on a direct collision course with destiny.

Love, Bev

On eyebrow plucking . . .this is one of the things I have been able to pull off without raising suspicion. It is also one of those things that I didn't think much of, until I did it, and now I can't stop. I think it really helped feminize my face. I look at before and after pics and WOW! Big difference. I didn't even realize how bushy my eyebrows were before.

Nobody noticed because I did it very gradually. Over months time I would remove pretty much a single line of eyebrow hairs from the bottom of my eyebrows maybe once a week until I got the thin eyebrows that I have now. I'm glad I did it.

The only problem is that once you do it you have to keep up on it because when the hairs start to grow back in it can become noticeable that you are plucking them.

Like Bev said, nobody will remember what they used to look like. I work with family everyday and nobody has noticed. If  they were to hold an old picture to my face they would probably notice the difference though.

I hope things work out for you Elissa with your job and money situation. You actually have a pretty feminine face from what I can see.  :)

just for the record, because I go to the nail salon every other week I am here to tell you that every time there are men there either getting manicures, pedicures or eyebrow waxing. It is the norm these days so have at it, no one is gonna think anything of it.

Actually, you do have a pretty feminine face :) .  But a row at a time over months?  I'm impatient, and impulsive, and after making a decision, usually go for it.  At a time when I worried about nuances of difference, I just picked up the tweezers, and had at 'em.  In sales, my friends and customers see me at very close range, and other than a quick approving glance from the women, no one else seemed to look or care.  Just my thoughts.

Yep.....that's what I'm doing now too.  Just femming out, right before their eyes   .  The hair isn't really laying over my shoulders, just barely brushing over them.  Now, several of my coworkers comment on how nice it looks, when just 2 months ago, it looked like hell.
My wife bought me a beautiful ladies wrist watch a few days ago, not too fem, not too butch, but unmistakeably female.  Not a word from anyone.   Not one!
Three days from now, I'm having both ears pierced.  I've talked about it with 3 coworkers, just for response.  What did I get?  Well, one of the three thought it was daring, another thought it was fine, and a third thought it was very cool, and offered to go with me.
In another week, I'm getting female eyeglasses.  I already have the frames.  They look very nice; my wife likes them too .

So far, so good :)

There is ALOT of unionization in the medical field. It is probably the only field where unions are growing rapidly.  The union that organizes most hospital employees outside of nurses is SEIU (Service Employees International Union).   They are a very progressive union and have backed bills with Lamda Legal Defense (just so everybody knows THAT is who you see if you are having discrimination problems based on your gender identity) and HRC protecting gender identity in California and other states.  They have something called the Lavender Caucus which is the GLBT part of SEIU.

SEIU is great regarding this issue, in fact if its not protected by your state it may be part of the union employment contract.
