So, hi...I am Ayemi and i stumbled upon this site while looking for information for signifigant others of transmen. My partner is just begining to discover their gender identity and really struggling with it. They know they are trans, they know they are most comfortable in the masculine role and perception. They do not know however, when/if they want to begin hormone therapy, when/if they will ever want surgery and when/if this will change anything about how they feel about our life together. I only came out as a lesbian woman in the last year, and i am just getting comfortable with my identifcation as such. So I start dating this person, who i find amazing and wonderful and everything i want in a partner, and then find out some months later that they are trans.

This changes nothing about how i feel about them. I am still very much in love with them, i am still very supportive of whatever tract the transition takes that they decide. I am just completely at a loss as for how to be supportive. I have a 6 year old daughter that i am hoping to explain (somewhat) how things are with her step parent, but i am completely at a loss. I am here for support and to learn how to be supportive. I'm so glad this forum exists!

Welcome to the site, Ayemi, it's good to meet you.

The fact that you want to learn how to be supportive shows that you already are. ;)

Feel free to post any concerns or questions you may have; we have a lot of very helpful and understanding folks here who, I'm sure, will be happy to offer advice and support. Before you do, however, take a quick look at the Terms of Service for the site (to give you an idea how the site is run and what the rules & regs are), and also the information on Post ranks (to show what you can do after you've reached various levels of posts here).

Above all... remember: you are beautiful, you are valuable, and you have a shining spark of magnificence within you. Don't let anyone take that from you. Embrace who you are. <3

Welcome, Ayemi, and thank you for being so supportive of your SO.

You'll find good info here in our Wiki and in the SO Forums as well.

Check our Links area on the Main Page and search for Transfamily. There is an excellent news list there that is only for spouses and SOs of trans folks.
