This year, the David Strand Diversity Achievement Award was given to Paula Ressler, an associate professor of English education. This award is granted to a faculty or staff member who is greatly involved in assisting activities and programs that respect and honor diversity.

Ressler is the co-founder and co-coordinator of the Bloomington-Normal Safe Schools Project. She said this project assists teachers, counselors, administrators and parents to better understand how to produce a safe community in schools for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students, families and school personnel.
