What is it? Is it different than FTM?

I think it's one of those 'umbrella' terms, to try to include those who are genderqueer, or are transitioning but don't necessarily identify as male.  I'll be honest, I still don't know a lot about correct trans-terminology.  I still occasionally say 'bio' as opposed to 'cis', since it's never struck me as offensive, so I'm far from PC, ha.   I don't really spend a lot of time in queer or trans space though in real life, I'm sure if I did I'd be more educated about it.

Transmasculine is a word that isn't correct...by that I mean that the word doesn't mean what it seems to mean. "Transmasculine" means, or is supposed to mean trans people who are assigned female at birth.

What it sounds like is well...masculine trans people. To me I feel like transmasculine should mean masculine trans people, be they masculine trans men, trans women, or genderqueer people (regardless of assigned birth sex).

I've always read it as anyone who is transitioning and identifies as somewhere on the male side of things but not necessarily ftm.

I've pretty much given up on all the terminology and labels. Seems new ones are spawned every year (from a variety of sources). I think I'll stick with "human" ... can't really get confused over that one.

That's what I interpret it as too.

I've always thought it to mean people who are trans and identify on the masculine side of gender expression (two sides: feminine and masculine)

Well i'm FTM but I don't identify as being masculine or trans-masculine, so the team wouldn't really apply to me.

I tend to go with "creature" to leave out any room for argument.
