Tak

I'm Tak. I don't have a real-life woman name at this point, so I'm going using my long-term internet name. I'm a 26 year old woman. I have a beautiful daughter and I'm fortunate enough to have a very supportive mother and sister who will be helping me out (at least emotionally).

I'm still publicly in the closet at the moment. I'm looking for an electrolysis practicioner and a therapist... there aren't any gender specialists in the immediate area, though. I do have an appointment with a therapist tomorrow to talk about this. She says that she's had "a little" experience and is very understanding and compassionate to gender issues, so I'm hopeful.

Thank you.

I'm trying to stay positive even though I'm basically a very negative person. It's nice to have some support, so I'm a bit hyper right now.

Hi Tak and welcome to Susan's!

Thank you for your introduction.  I'm very happy to know that your mom and sister support you; that's a huge plus IMO. :)  Please take a second to explore the entire site, get familiar with the site rules here and take advantage of our many resources such as the wiki, chatroom, and reference library.  You may also check out our lists of gender therapists and electrologists. ;)

We look forward to your future posts and participation.  Enjoy your stay!

Welcome Tak.  You mentioned no gender specialists in your area and that your therapist has "a little" experience and is very understanding and compassionate to gender issues."  You might direct her to Susan's to check on some of the info on gender therapists in case she needs to confer with someone else.

Again welcome,
Bev

Welcome.

Let me express my envy at you having a supportive mother and sister.  My mother and sister are complete idiots.  It's sad.

I hope the therapist works out for you.  If not, she'll probably at least be able to point you to someone who can really help you.

A lot of resources here, though.  Enjoy!

I'm very lucky in that regard, I'll admit. My dad knows (although it was just my mother getting irritated and telling him before I got a chance to while I was working one day) and he's being supportive too. Turned it all around into being about him... in a "WHAT?! Why do the kids always feel like they can't tell me anything?!" sort of way. I feel like an idiot for not telling him now, but there's nothing I can do about it.

It's weird that my parents are so supportive and understanding when they're conservative republican southern baptists. I guess I let my fear of that get in the way.

Thank you all for the nice welcomes. :D
