OMFG I ABSOLUTELY FRICKIN' TOTALLY LOVE L!!  *fangirl squeal*   ;D  My fiancé and I have the "L vs Light" argument all the time, and I don't care what anyone says, L is the best.  He's quirky, he's original, he's fiercely intelligent, and he loves candy.

Seriously, who couldn't love this face?
i'll join you in your fangirling! but i can't say i'd want to be him, it's more like i'd wanna own him.

a character i could like to be is baka-ki-el dogra from level e. the ultimate intelligence, definitely, but mixed with the childish ideas of a true evil genious. i've been a fan since long before the anime was made
another one that i wouldn't mind being is shirase from battle programmer shirase. would be nice to live without any worries like that
and then there's mutou from karate shoukoushi kohinata mamoru. that's a funny character, i really wanna be like that

there should have been some super heroes in there too, but i seriously can't remember which ones i used to identify with. maybe zoro from one piece, has to be someone who can swim.. or nougami neuro, would be nice to sleep in the ceiling for a change

I'm going to have to go with a tv character here.  Definitely Gus from Psych.  Obscure references, poorly attempting to be a responsible adult, and generally thinking I'm cooler than I actually am.
Oh I'm a lucky man to count on both hands the ones I love

I definitely know what you mean!  I'd put him on a leash and keep him as a pet.   ;D

I'm not familiar with the other series you mentioned (I don't get a chance to read manga all that much with this new veterinary program I'm doing at school.  sigh...and this is totally off-topic), but another manga character I'd like to own is probably (don't laugh at me for this) Negi Springfield from Mahou Sense Negima.  It's a guilty pleasure, sometimes I watch extremely girly anime.   ::)

i wouldn't call negima a girly anime. that one is exactly the thing that all those male fans love to watch. i've a brother who prefers that type of show, and i know many other men who like them too. but i can understand wanting to own negi, he's so cute...

level e is a series you just have to read and watch. manga is 3 volumes, anime is 13 eps and really well made. it's made by the same author who made yu yu hakusho and hunter x hunter. weird that the best manga is the least known of them
battle programmer shirase is a very short show. it has 15 eps that would combine into 5 full eps. and the karate manga is a seriously manly comedy which i don't think too many girls would like. homophobes might not like it either because of the pedro character in it

Wow, then I guess that's not my 'feminine' side talking when I watch Negima.     I think I'd honestly rather adopt Negi and hug him every day; he's like a tiny teddy bear.   ;D

I'll have to look for Level E on mangareader sometime.  Oh, and I LOVE YYH, by the way, my bro and I watch it all the time.  I think Hiei and Genkai are my two favorites from that one.  Sadly, I only got to read one chapter of HunterxHunter in a Shounen Jump I borrowed from a friend of mine years ago, I'll have to find that one and read it too.  :D
That being said, I'm opening up a tab to mangareader.net riiiight....now.
Do you like Gurren Lagann by any chance?

if you like negi more than the girls, there's a possibility it's some of your feminine side liking it too..

hiei is awesome, the only character clad in black with a dark childhood who's not emo. i'd love to be him, how fun wouldn't it be to play with hellfire...
hunter x hunter should not be read after where the anime stops. the newest arch is progressing slowly, i think because of the author's bad health

gurren lagann is great. unfortunately i never got to watch the whole thing, but i will eventually. i wish i could be even half as manly as kamina

We're kind of drifting here, but I thought I'd toss in that Negima and Love Hina are two of my brother's favorite series.  Actually, I think that most of the people I know who like them are guys.

This is true...I think Nodoka would be my second favorite; she's so adorable.

Definitely.  I'd personally love to speak telepathically with people and have a third eye, but hellfire would be pretty awesome, too.   ::)   ;D

Aww, that's awful...I hope he/she gets better soon, if possible.   :(

I KNOW, RIGHT?!  Kamina is amazing.  That series (so I don't ruin anything for you in case you haven't seen/read that far) made me and my fiancé cry.  And he very rarely cries.     It's such a good series, very original, in my humblest opinion.   :D

I'm not sure, because I good book puts its characters under trial -

I would like to be someone a bit dashing, a Mr Rochester or a Cyrano de Bergerac... Captain Macheath would be great to be 'specially because he gets away with it at the end.

It mustt also be fun to be a feisty and sexy heroine for the day, just to try it out - maybe a Moll Flanders or a  Fanny Hill, she has a lot of fun anyway.

What book character? Probably Katerina (Kat) Lisasdottar from Someone to Cover My Back.

"Walking along the street, kicking the garbage that always accumulated, she noticed her reflection in a mirror that was inside a display window. She stopped to gaze at herself. While anyone would have said that she was an attractive woman, all she saw were her flaws. Too tall, she thought, too fat. But she liked her blue eyes and wavy blond hair... except for the gray streaks starting to appear. She thought her breasts too small, her legs too short, her butt too big. It was everything that a dysfunctional society would teach women to criticize about themselves. She turned away in disgust. The fact that both men and women would hit on her made no impression on her."
"Anyone who attempts to play the 'real transsexual' card should be summarily dismissed, as they are merely engaging in name calling rather than serious debate."
