I am about to throw everything on one of my credit cards (yay!  go platinum plus credit limits! LOL) and just get it done and over with for once and for all.  However, I could not afford to pay on it for long so I want to have surgery as close to the end of the year as possible so I can file my taxes in March and get my return in April.

My question to everyone is:

Has anyone here had any trouble in submitting the medical claim with the IRS?

Would like to hear from those who went to someone in the states or overseas, in particular to Thailand as I am currently thinking of going to Chettawut.

Thanks in advance!

Hi LostInTime,

Tax advice is a sticky subject. You could just call the IRS and get a more diffinitive answer. Just because one person had no problem could be because nobody actually looked at the form. My guess would be they are not that fussy with the nature of the medical expense. What you need to know is what the tax code says about medical expense and this can change before the end of the year. Best bet is to talk to someone like H&R Block to get the latest info.

Well I have "spoken" with several who have successfully deducted electrolysis, facial surgery, and SRS.  Plus the IRS lost a case where they tried to deny the medical deduction for the surgery.  I was just curious about what others who may be here might have run into.  I already have a lawyer on retainer and financial advisor who will file the surgery as a deduction.

I am not looking for tax advice, I pay someone for that.  I am curious on personal experiences.

Thanks for the response though.
