While I was happy that marriage equality passed here in New York State, I am disappointed that GENDA, a bill that would provide protections for transgender people against discrimination in employment died in the state senate. There were enough votes for it to pass but, in my mind, wasn't pressed hard enough.

In my mind, the organizations that are supposed to be representing us possibly got caught up in the hoopla of marriage equality. I was disappointed that GENDA (Gender Employment Non-Discrimination Act) failed to pass but I'm not deterred from working to see that the best bill that benefits transgender people will become law.

Sadly, I hadn't even heard of that bill.

Even in death, may I be triumphant.

There's a lot of folks, even in the gay community, that has a problem with anything to do with gender identity. To show the hypocrisy of this, butch lesbians and effeminate males are shunned by the gay and lesbian community. I always say that everyone is not buffed, or possess sleek features. I blame the LGBT media for perpetrating this myth just as much as regular media.

it all centers around education. You gotta educate, educate, educate people.

For example, I betcha the GNDA bill was unknown to even many trans people. If trans people havent heard of it, then don't expect it to pass.

Bills pass when the public knows about it. The bill could have the best language in the world but if very little people know about trans people then it simply won't pass. It took the gays and lesbians over 40 years of educating people so that their bills could finally start passing through the Senate. In terms of transgender education...we didn't really take educating the masses seriously until the mid 90s. before that we were all mostly in the closet or in chat rooms.

About the butch lesbians and feminine gay men...where I live, these two groups are not being discriminated at all by the gays and lesbians. Matter of fact, almost every single lesbian in Lancaster City (i frequent the lesbian bars sometimes here) are butch lesbians. Same is true for the gay men.  So I think that is a regional occurrence and not a stereotypical one where Gays and Lesbians harass butch lesbians and feminine gay men.

I see the same thing where I have the houses...I just don't see the alleged harassment some have described as taking place elsewhere.  But then again, they (the really butch women or nelly men) aren't getting hung up on trying to pin everything they do on 'gender identity' and claiming a need for legislated protections on that basis either...

Not always.  There's no need to go categorizing a group of people saying they're all the same.  Human beings are not cans of soup meant to be labeled.   :-\

you have religious zealots and ignorance in any party. Not just republicans. Ive got many republican friends who are fiscal and government republicans but socially liberal and they have nothing to do with the "tea party base."  Last time i checked, Barney Frank is Democrat and he could not stand us (TG) for a very long time.

It's like comparing all Christians to being ignorant people who hates LGBT people. The truth of the matter is, only the fundamentalist Christians have issues with us. There is a vast majority of other Christians who embrace us.

Thank you.  Why don't other people get this?  Why is it that so many people on here see the word "Christian" and automatically assume that all Christians are hateful, narrow-minded judgmental bible-thumping morons?   :-\   ???  It makes me sad, really.

Sorry, didn't mean to rant.   :(
