ahhh! let me open with the fact that i don't usually drink. i don't like getting carded so i don't buy booze. BUT i got my new ID in the mail today and finally didn't have my 16 year old long blonde hair picture anymore so i decided to celebrate and bought sixer of fat tire. 1 1/2 beers in my mom calls me. i hadn't eaten all day. we shoot the ->-bleeped-<- for however long when some comment sparks the gender chat. she basically asked me if i wanted to be a boy and i just started rambling uncontrollably about how i'm confused and at the very least, i'm not happy being a girl and have never felt comfortable as one. WEIGHT OFF MY BACK! she listened and told me that she just wants me to be happy so i can live a fulfilling life (right now i'm a hermit, no job, no friends). so it was already set up for her to fly in tomorrow to see me for five days and she went ahead and set up a therapy appointment with this really cool looking lesbian therapist that states gender identity as one of her areas of focus. I AM SO EXCITED!!! near the end of our conversation we started talking about names cause i told her that i'd want to change my name at the very least because mine in just so freaking girly. i mentioned kaleb and she wasn't feeling it because it's such a christian sounding name (and she knows how incredibly anti-religion i am) so she started throwing some around and she said Kyle. which was crazy because i've been watching Kyle XY on netflix nonstop these past two days (it's an abc family show from 06-09 that i loved) and i've kinda always wanted to be like the main character kyle and my mom means a lot to me so the fact that she really liked it for me meant a lot too. anyways, that's what's up with me!

Congratulations Kyle, fantastic that your Mum is happy for you.
As a parent myself, I just want my kids to be happy with their lives.  Everything else is just an extra.
Sounds like you were relaxed enough to open up and she was expecting something like this.

Wow, Kyle.  that's SO amazing your mom is awesome.

I would kill for someone like that, lol.  I can out to my aunt (who is more like a mother), and it wasn't as helpful as I thought. 
I mean, she said she'd always love me, and we've never spoken about it since.  that made it rather pointless coming out to her.  I came out to her because I wanted her to help me, help me transition.  call me a guy/him/he. help me find a therapist and a doctor for hormones.  But nope.  nothing changed.

So, you are incredibly lucky to have an awesome mom like that   remember that.


I've also seen Kyle XY and I loved it too.  If I didn't know so many kyles, I would have liked that name for myself
