Hello,

After lurking here for a few months now, I figured I may as well register and introduce myself. 
I am 21 years old and never identified terribly well with my male body or the gender role I was expected to perform. I don't remember the first time I cross-dressed, but I was playing with dolls at a young age. Having an older brother was a great help in learning the "proper" ways to behave and act, so I ended up decapitating and burying my precious Barbie doll around the age of 6. My dreams and waking moments were filled with wishing, privately, to be a girl. I had little knowledge of transsexuals or the term transgender during my youth. More importantly, I had no idea of the medical treatments (HRT and SRS) that would actually transform a male body into a female body. By the age of 15, I had written off becoming a female as something that would happen when in my "next life" believing in reincarnation. It was not until the fall of last year that I was educated about my options, attending an Intro to Psychology course. Since that time I've spent countless hours visiting websites, reading books, speaking with a counselor at my college and attending a local TG support group. My next step will happen next weekend, when I tell my parents. Its a pleasure to meet you all.

Welcome to Susan's.  Be sure and read the rules and visit the reference and Wiki sections.  Good luck with your parents.  I'm glad to see you are moving forward in dealing with your situation, and that is definitely a big step.  Be sure and keep us posted - I know many here are most willing to help.
