Is this unusual if I may ask, or par for the course, if we disclose what we look like? Getting email proposals?

I decided to do that, disclose, not that I think I'm pretty, far from it, but to give you folks an idea (physiognomy and such) who you are talking with.

It can be disorienting to speak to a "blank wall" so to speak, - at times.

Is it really for all that do so, to protect there privacy?

Hell, it can be flattering and scary all at once if you are emailed based on our Susan's Place avatar presentation.

Any thoughts on that?

I don't fully understand, you got a proposal based on your susans avatar? What sort of proposal? Like a marriage proposal?

Cagey, but making compliments like: "I be looking better the some bio-females" and so on.
Asking about having transitioned, if on E, etc.

Obviously a guy that may want to hook up because he likes what he seems to see in my avatar.

Grrrr, some parallel to when first contacts are made via internet dating? I guess some such.

Also just shows me what a baby I am in this sort of situation. You want to be nice/kind but not seem like a walk-over, which I'm not. But also not be brash and stop a guy dead in his tracks.

I had a weird thing happen - a couple of weeks ago, I changed my profile on a dating site (where I'm very out about being in transition) to say I'm just looking for friends. That very same week, I got 3 messages out of the blue from random women (identifying as straight) in their 50's around the country, all saying "You look cute." I don't know whether they're part of a cartel or what (they said other things too, but that was their matching opening gambit). It freaked me out.

Strange? I've actually got no idea. It could be par for the course?

I asked that guy:
- So what are you looking for?
- How can I help you?

Well, I got no answers to any of that really.
Oh, and he send me his PICTURE!!!

It's one of those sites where I have pics and they have pics, so we can already see each other. I was just freaked out because they were coming on so strong - I mean, if I'm approaching someone specifically with a view to friendship, my opening line would definitely not be "you look cute" .

The one bloke who's approached me turned out to be a bit of a nob-end really, and was definitely looking at me as a man he wanted to experiment with. Nuh-uh. This is why I've hung up my Closed For Repairs sign on online dating (except as a way of making friends) until I've transitioned a lot more. Meanwhile, it works much better meeting people with similar interests to me by getting out and doing stuff I like doing with other people who like doing the same stuff.

Ehm, well, and so you do look cute, and girls have their way of saying stuff like that, or?

But they may still see you as a cute play-thing for chicks? :-)

I have just now had such a girl situation, being told she dreamed about me how a were (her wording... Like in "The way we were") and that it was such a vivid dream... more details... and that I am "in human" now.

Talk about freaky encounters, hon.

Why do you think I altered my avatar? I have had four or five people hit on me due to my image and being here. It happens. I remember one particularly vile person who stirred up quite a bit of controversy here that called me hot and I got the same basic line of questions from them (E? pre-op?...). I am in no way here for a relationship like that.

It seems that many people who reach out to us in that way here are ->-bleeped-<-s (unless they're trans themselves).

or it could be email phishers

we were selling some atv's on craigslist and we posted a contact phone # and people would still send strange email messages. Sum it up as hackers and phishers.

this is not a dating site, unless I am mistaking. There are sites that cater to that. Myself, guessing I must not be pretty :-(, would takeit with a grain of salt and be weary of those kinds of communica

Reason #273 why I prefer my anonymity in the online world...it was always bad enough sifting through the crap in the old mySpace days when I did not even have a picture and you could tell people were just sending messages based on the fact someone was online.  They also tended to pick back up when there was an update of any sort to the page...

Of course the easiest way for me to tell someone never bothered to read anything I had posted is when it is a male trying to contact me...

yeah, I probably should have clarified that it has not happened to me *here* (and it rarely happened on most of the other boards, even those that I was on well over a decade ago even after I met peeps IRL as I toured). 

It could well have happened to me, but I would have absolutely no idea because i have a seperate webmail account for signing up to forums and the like which i only go into every couple of months to delete everything.

Mind you I did used to get a fair few PMs from people telling me how pretty they thought I was. Never disrespectful, often quite sweet and to me at least...highly bemusing.

No, never.  Not an email (which I leave private) nor a PM.  Random compliments, sure, which I do like .

Nope!  But then again, I leave my email private for much that very reason.  Like others, got a few really nice PM's, but that's it.

now I might be a baby dealing with men of various wants, needs and what all else comes with the territory, I can deal with odd sounding come-ons via email, I hope so.

Though I have a theory how this may come about.
Say if we have someone here that has an account at Susan's and generally is a well behaved person, some "friend" may ask them to just check "us" out, MtF or FtM, and gain access to those of us that allow email?

What the heck. If it is so, it was now brought up and would make that emailer be wondering if that was OK after all.
I DON'T MIND RECEIVING EMAILS per se, but then it be ever so nice to say what it was you actually had in mind, or what is was you wanted.
Then we can see if that could be taken any further.

This is also why I don't have a pic of me as my avatar. Creepy is creepy.

Maybe your avatar just looks to cute? Like: "Anmache?" (a come-on?)

Also have no idea how some of these "introductions" are motivated?

I don't think they need just all be bad either.
But one gets a sense if they ARE creepy - I seem too.
