Christians threaten artist over Blake Prize

An art work featuring an intersex activist, a drag queen, a lesbian academic and renowned indigenous artist Richard Bell in poses reminiscent of Jesus Christ is a frontrunner for this year's $15,000 Blake Prize for religious art.

Luke Roberts, the artist behind the challenging and thought provoking work – known as 'Three Figures at the Bases of Crucifixions' – told SX he has received a plethora of threats against him following an article in the Sun-Herald last week.

"I've received hundreds of threatening emails, mainly from Christians. They're threatening me with their God, with hellfire and damnation.

Threaten them back with Robocop, I would .

If he doesn't come to his senses soon I'd further threaten him with Baal, The Flying Spaghetti Monster and Cthulhu.  That ought to scare him even more.

That's the stuff or harmless christians.  The serious ones handbill your neighborhood and the place you work with imaginative artwork linking grisly images with photos of you and let the religious nuts take care of the rest.

- On the issue of threats, at least the Muslims do it properly when they don't like your art they burn you in effigy, set fire to the embassy of the nation of your origin and kill the employers. Now that's holiness in action.
