I just read up on guys who breast feed their infants ... don't ask why, it's late and I was bored. anyway, apparently male breast tissue is capable of developing milk the same way female breast tissue does and that men can breast feed. Apparently it just takes a lot of suckling to get it going.

Anyway. I'm not sure what to think of it myself, with the image of some average biological guy with a kid hanging off his nipples... but it kind of made me wonder what any MtFs planning on having kids think of this. I'd think that another source of nutrition, such as formula or female breast milk should be used primarily, but would you ever try to breastfeed your child?

Considering the bonding involved, it is understandable why some fathers would be a little jealous of their female counterparts' ability to breastfeed. I guess that's why I decided to check it out - I guess I sometimes think if I do have kids, I'd be missing out on that bit and even knowing some dads do it, I still don't think I could.

But what do you guys think of it? MtF and FtM?

I don't think I would be deterred by the image of a guy with a kid hanging off his nipples if I have researched and determined that that is what would be best for my child (if I had a child that is, which I don't). I suspect that it probably wouldn't be the best thing though, in which case I wouldn't do it.

I tried it with my daughter but it didn't work.

First there is the challenge to latch on.
Babies go after smell and I did not smell like her mother nor like breast milk so there was no reason for her to try to latch on.
Not being able to breast feed was really hard on me as I could take care of any other need but failed to feed my baby.
I had pumped breast milk so it worked of course with the bottle but the pain stayed lingering as with every feeding I had to face the fact that I am somehow less than.

Just recently I asked her if she wants to BF with me and she said yes! my daughter is over 2 and still BF
So I took her on me and she just laughed and wiggled out of my lap.

So it never happened for me but there are several other factors to keep in mind. I was working all day while she was an infant and for the regular milk production
you have to BF regularly or you loose your milk supply. Your breast get engorged and if you don't BF or express the milk immediately you are done with the production.
That is why it makes so much sense for the BF-ing parent to be home stay parent but in the USA even mother's don't get more than 3 months of maternity leave.
Of course a lot of mothers care their pumps around but more often than not that is not an option for fathers and even those mothers are struggling with milk production
as there is no emotional content when you are facing the pump. That is why a lot of mother carry their baby's photographs to look at
while pumping in order to start the pumping/milk production process. The milk is not being stored in the breast it is being produced as needed!
Yeah, it is not just about sucking for long enough either, there is the emotional and spiritual connection as well as energy exchange between the BF-parent and the baby.

it really weighs a lot on me!

  I heard of this long ago and I wanted to breastfeed as well.  This was rare back in the 80's when I read that a ->-bleeped-<- as his doctor called him, got married, got off the estrogen and he managed to father a child.  When he asked his doctor what will it takes to produce milk, the doctor put him back on the estrogen and started giving him prolactin shots when his child was born. 
  The doctors would not give this type of therapy anymore due to concerns of passing the hormones to the child.  Breast pump exercises during the wife's last trimester has produced milk in cismales.   Some has lactated anyway, without doing anything, probably because to the strong emotional attachment to his wife.
