Has anyone in here had hair extension or interested/considered getting one? I am lol, well I just started taking hormones for only a month and a half so obviously my real hair is still short. I know the hormones would help it grows faster than usual but I really can't wait another 6 months or a year to have a long hair down to my chest. And wearing a wig is a pain in the butt, I mean you basically can't get it wet and it's really uncomfortable if you wear it all day long, especially with the humidity weather over here in Texas

I've been asked by several guys to go to the beach, and you know how much I wanted to go but I can't. Yes, it's my dilemma. I did some research and found out about Great Lengths hair extension, I don't know if you have heard about it but it's the best of the best in the worldwide market right now, 100% human hair and they use "cold fusion" technology with protein heat so it won't damage your natural hair. With superior quality like that meaning it comes with an expensive cost, the longer you want your hair, the more you have to pay. I went to a salon and asked about Great Lengths hair extension and the lady said that it would cost me about $1,600 for a full-head, 16 inches long. I considered them many years ago and opted against them since long hair can be a pain in the ass to keep up with in Texas humidity.  At the time, I already had shoulder length hair that I had worn even prior to transitioning, so my situation may be difficult than what you are dealing with (have no idea how long your hair is).  That was a long time ago and techniques were also likely different back then...

Advice I had from one of your fellow Texans, who is a hair dresser that puts in the hair extensions, is that to make them realistic, the extensions can only be tiwce as long as your natural hair, and they are put in two thirds up from the tip of your hair.  Otherwise, they create volume problems which are a give away that something is off and fake.  If your hair is really short right now, go ahead and save your money up, but don't spend it too soon.  Our California weather is not all that different from your weather, and the extensions can also be as hot or hotter than a wig.  I began and then gave up using some temporary clip in extension back in June.  In a couple of weeks when it cools down, I may try again, but I for one do like wigs.

All I'm told, they are a real maintenance issue AND get HOT!
They're bitch to dry, and if not done so properly will start to get smelly and funked up.

Looking at those models' pics, - for them it's a way of life and they have to allocate 1/2 day at least to wash, dry, and set. The means $$$ ! Like every 2nd – 3rd day? Hello!

It's with most everything else of these femme items, like lash extensions (they itched and I had to get rid of them, touch up every 2 weeks!), gel-coating your nails (every 10 days, and then stripping with acetone, eh), waxing (every ~ month), laser (ditto), and, and, and.

Though it's a great way to pass time in female company for hours on end.
If you have time and $$$ enough, why not?

I done some for a while but my budget started to look bleak so I stopped.

Also, it can get tricky if you want to do it all and remain stealth --- hey, who are we kidding?
One get rather close to hair dressers and beauticians, you know :-)

I've worn clip in extensions, but a month ago I chopped off all my real hair because of a little "episode" I had. (it used to be the length I have in my avatar)
and now my real hair is too short to wear clip ins.
I'm waiting for mine to grow out.

But realistically I don't think anyone has ever done that because of the price of it, mostly everyone just grows it out or wears wigs.

I can afford it, but I still think it's way too expensive so the result better comes out natural and stuff or else I would be pissed. But I think it will, Great Lengths has its name in the market, even Hollywood celebrities use them so. With Greath Lengths hair extension, because it's 100% human hair, I can do pretty much everything with it like my own hair, curl it, straightening it, color it, etc. And the good thing is that I can get it wet so yeah

I'm waiting for mine to grow out too but in the mean time, I need to get hair extension. Do you mind if I ask how long have you been on hormones boo? My natural hair is straight like your avatar but it's shorter

My hair had been long before I ever started which was a great idea, I wish it could still be with me now as we speak! *sniff* 

lol and mine is a weird hybrid of wavy and straight.
Although I have heard that on HRT your hair texture will change.

So we are on the same boat here boo boo, I've just been on hormones for 7 weeks

I think it's true that the hormones would change our hair texture, just like it would change our bone structure if we take them while we were young, let's say under 21

Hi! I wear clip in's and I love them. They are much cheaper and easier to maintain then the fusion ones you are considering, but it's up to you of course in the end. It is a pain to put them in, especially since I wear them everyday. But it becomes part of your routine and you don't really think much of it. Just an option.
