I'm in my junior year of high school, which means that I'm supposed to be finding univeritiea/colleges I'd like to go to after I graduate. I REALLY hope to go to UBC, so I was looking at their dorms online. I happened to come across a residency application form and it asked for a legal name (first and last) and a preferred name (first) which is FANTASTIC. I was very excited about that. Then it goes on to ask which gender housing I'd like to be put into (male, female, or co-ed which is separated by floors) and it asks for my gender.

Even though I won't be able to change my legal sex for a while, would I be allowed (legally) to put myself down as male because they ask for gender? I really don't want to be stuck living on a girl's floor, and if I need to I might be able to spend the extra cash on a single room on the guy's floor. Also, can I ask live in an all-men building when I'm old enough (for some reason, you have to be 19) because, again, they're asking gender?

I agree with Sarah, just call and ask - you don't want to end up having them kick you out of the dorm for not putting your legal sex. Unfortunately, A lot of people use 'gender' and 'sex' interchangably, even though they're not the same thing at all. A lot of people seem to assume that they are always the same thing.
