Megyn Kelly Debunks Gay-Bashing Psychiatrist's 'Dancing With the Stars' Theories

Dr. Keith Ablow has a long and nasty record of saying unpleasant and inaccurate things about sexual orientation, gender identity, and the media. He's insulted Chaz Bono, calling him a "very disordered person"; speculated darkly that a J. Crew ad will sow widespread gender confusion among children; and declared that prison normalizes homosexuality. As my colleagues at ThinkProgress have repeatedly pointed out, it's an embarrassment that a serious news network would give this much space and airtime to someone whose idea have as much science behind them as patent medicine.

"Serious news network?" They can't be talking about FoxNews, the joke of the "news" industry.
"Anyone who attempts to play the 'real transsexual' card should be summarily dismissed, as they are merely engaging in name calling rather than serious debate."

I just find it interesting that Megyn Kelly, who WORKS FOR FoxNews (the news channel that many politically liberal folks love to hate) was debunking the well-intentioned but sadly miseducated Dr. Ablow, who is NOT a FoxNews staffer...although he does have a business relationship with them as a contributing member of their "medical team".

Again, it was a FoxNews staffer DEFENDING Chaz Bono. Just one of many "liberal-friendly" moments that often get overlooked by FN's critics. ;)

Special kudos to Ms Kelly for using male pronouns when referring to Chaz. Well done.

I'll probably get flamed severely for this next bit, but I feel it needs to be said...   :icon_burn:

Personally, I've found that FN is really no more biased or unprofessional than CNN or MSNBC; their op/ed commentators just have a different POV than those on other networks. The same could be said of CNN vs MSNBC or even MSNBC vs (dare I say it) Comedy Central's Jon Stewart.  (I watch them all, as well as numerous non-US news sources and news commentators.) Certainly, there are plenty of conservatives who believe CNN misrepresents them just as much as many liberals believe they are misrepresented by FoxNews.

In the end, we tend to watch (and listen to) channels, programs, and people whose opinions and viewpoints are similar to our own. There is nothing wrong with that, but it makes it easy to discount or diminish those with whom we do not entirely agree.  Heck, we can't even agree on the distinction between the definitions of the terms "transgender" and "transsexual";  how the h-e-double-hockey-sticks are we going to agree on Right vs Left, Conservative vs Liberal, or even Communism vs Socialism vs Capitalism?

(I do think Glenn Beck leaving first CNN and more recently FoxNews did wonders to improve both their reputations, though. He's just too sensationalistic for any proper news channel. Moving to GBTV.com was the best thing he could have done for all of Cable/Satellite TV.)  ::)

Me: socially liberal, fiscally conservative, and a "historical-context" Constitutionalist - no political Party really represents me at all.

Call me Dana. Call me Cait. Call me Kat. Just don't call me late for dinner.
