MYRTLE BEACH -- Christina Goldman recently took to Facebook to tell her story of struggling with Gender Identity Disorder (GID) for 37 years before undergoing gender reassignment surgery in Thailand several months ago.

Goldman was born Christopher Goldman, a boy, but as long as she can remember, she's felt inherently female. "I realized that I was uncomfortable in my body when I was 3 years old, or as early as my first conception...I didn't like being around little boys. I wanted to be friends with little girls who at the time accepted me as their friend because there wasn't exactly the segregation at that point. I didn't like running off in the woods. I preferred to stay around my mom. I didn't want to get hurt, didn't like rough play and just preferred to play with my sister and little girls I had met at school," she said.

That was a lovely story. I'm so glad your community was accepting. Sometimes people can be wonderful. :)

Thanks so much . . honestly i expected to be tarred and feathered and run out of town. But amazingly the vast majority of the people were very accepting . .

Your story is so inspiring!! I'm 33 and just down the road in the Lowcountry....

Thank you so much.... Often I feel I am too old to transition, and also know it is not something I will begin tomorrow, either, so I am only getting older.  And then there is the whole "conservative south" thing... I am glad you found acceptance.  Just an all around great story!!

Hi Kari,
I think we all wish we had transitioned earlier . . but its certainly not too late. I was actually on WRNN radio this morning and the Conservative south could not have been more understanding of our condition. In fact there wasn't one negative caller. I'm going to post the broadcast on my youtube channel if you want to hear it. Anyway . . i wish you the best and don't give up.
