Old thread is old, but I wanted to dig it up.

I've got a song stuck in my head from Les Miserables. It's making me cry almost, because yesterday I got a glimpse of what I could be once I transition to where I'm happy. At the moment I'm having a lot of trouble cooing to terms with not knowing when things will happen.

"I saw him once,
then he was gone.
We were like dreamers at night
who meet as in a trance then part again,
two phantoms in the shadows of the moon.
Can people really fall in love so soon?
He walked alone.
He seemed alone like me.
Could he have known that moment was my destiny?
I had to walk away,
for it was like a dream.
I saw him once.
The dream was true.
I saw him once,
and once will do."

Someday I will be that elfin boy-creature I saw in the mirror.

Was Desmond Jones a crossdresser?  Was Desmond trans?  Oh, who cares... it's still one of the funniest lyrics screw-ups to make it onto a Beatles recording. ;D  And yes, it was a screw-up.  The song wasn't written this way, but Paul sang it like this and everyone thought it was so funny it made it to the finished version.

Happy ever after in the market place
Molly lets the children lend a hand
Desmond stays at home and does his pretty face
And in the evening she's a singer with the band

Lala how the life goes on.

Not that keen on the music and singing and soft porn style but this is such a positive message from a transwoman:

What a great thread!

"Take what you want" from Lily Allen has been my go-to anthem.

There are a few I like to think of as trans, but aren't really.

1. The Killers, "Somebody Told Me"
Somebody told me
That you had a boyfriend
who looked like a girlfriend
that I had in February of last year...

2. White Town, "Your Woman" (sung by a man)

Well I guess what you say is true,
I could never be the right kind of girl for you,
I could never be your woman.

3. Adam Lambert, "Broken Open"
I know the battle, chasing the shadow of who you wanna be
It doesn't matter, go on and shatter
I'm all you need

Broken pieces, break into me
So imperfectly what you should be

I was told that "Arnold Layne", from the early Pink Floyd (still with the great Syd Barrett) is about a crossdresser that was put in jail because of it...

Arnold Layne had a strange hobby
Collecting clothes
Moonshine washing line
They suit him fine

On the wall hung a tall mirror
Distorted view, see through baby blue
He dug it
Oh, Arnold Layne
It's not the same, takes two to know
Two to know, two to know, two to know
Why can't you see?

Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne

Now he's caught - a nasty sort of person.
They gave him time
Doors bang - chain gang - he hates it

Oh, Arnold Layne
It's not the same, takes two to know
two to know, two to know, two to know,
Why can't you see?

Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne, Arnold Layne
Don't do it again.

4. Kula Shaker, "Hey Dude"
Hey dude, well I do what I can
But you treat me like a woman
when I feel like a man

There's a song called Do You Love An Apple that The Bothy Band used to do, with the lovely Trionna ni Dhomnail singing it - "Do you love an apple, do you love a pear? Do you love a laddie with curly brown hair? Ah yes, I love him, I can't deny him, I will be with him wherever he goes..." I used to listen to it and sing it in my teens, and secretly (as in: secret from myself) identify with her. Of course, nowadays I'm okay with being her and wanting Trionna too :).

well, on the less serious side there's always "My Vagina" by NOFX

My vagina has two sets of lips
But I don't get monthly blood drips
My vagina hardly even used

My vagina's got lots of extra skin
They took my outtie and made it an in
Changing Donnie to Marie Osmond

Operation successfull
But now I gotta pee
Through a miniature hole
Gotta remember to put the seat down
And when I wipe my ass
I go from front to back
Cause I don't want a bladder infection

I never thought I'd miss my vas deferens
I traded it in for a pair of huge cans
Now I get to hang with lesbians

Operation paid up front
Now I show all my friends
My new designer c#@$
They think I'm kinda weird
But that's OK with me
Cause now I kick their ass
Playing from the ladies tee

There's nothing finer than having a vagina

As Girls Go
Suzanne Vega
Album: 99.9f

You make a really good girl
As girls go
Still kind of look like a guy
I never thought to wonder why

If I could pull this off
Would I know for certain
The real situation
Behind the curtain

So beautiful
damsel in distress
Not exactly natural
Stunning none the less

What happened to you?
To make you more girl than girls are
Would you ever show or tell
Cause you're so good so far

You make a really good girl
As girls go
As girls go
As girls go
As girls go
As girls go

Let's chronicle
The dark side of the life
Did you ever keep the date
With the steel side of the knife

Doesn't matter to me
Which side of the line
You happen to be
At any given time

You make a really good girl
As girls go
As girls go
As girls go
As girls go
As girls go
"Be yourself; everyone else is already taken." Oscar Wilde

from the 1920s

Masculine Women! Feminine Men!

Hey! Hey! Women are going mad, today!
Hey! Hey! Fellers are just as bad, I'll say!
Go anywhere, just stand and stare,
You'll say they're bugs when you look at the clothes they wear.

Masculine Women, Feminine Men,
which is the rooster which is the hen?
It's hard to tell 'em apart today.
And SAY...
Sister is busy learning to shave,
Brother just loves his permanent wave,
It's hard to tell 'em apart today.
HEY! HEY!
Girls were girls and boys were boys when I was a tot,
Now we don't know who is who or even what's what.
Knickers and trousers, baggy and wide,
Nobody knows who's walking inside.
Those Masculine Women, Feminine Men

Masculine Women. Feminine Men
which is the rooster which is the hen?
It's hard to tell 'em apart today.
And SAY...
Auntie is smoking, rolling her own,
Uncle is always buying cologne.
It's hard to tell 'em apart today.
HEY! HEY!
You go and give your girl a kiss in the hall,
But instead you find you're kissing her brother Paul.
Mama's got a sweater up to her chin,
Papa's got a girtle holding him in.
Those Masculine Women, Feminine Men

Stop, Look, Listen and you'll agree... with me.
Things are not what they used to be... you'll see.
You say hello to Uncle Joe,
Then look again and you find it's your Aunti Flo.

Masculine Women, Feminine Men
which is the rooster which is the hen?
It's hard to tell 'em apart today.
And SAY...
Wifey is playing billiards and pool,
Hubby is dressing kiddies for school.
It's hard to tell 'em apart today.
HEY! HEY!
Ever since the Prince of Wales in dresses was seen,
What does he intend to be the King or the Queen?
Grandmother buys those tailor-made clothes,
Grandfather tries to smell like a rose.
Those Masculine Women, Feminine Men

From 1925: Masculine Women, Feminine Men

I don't think this one was a best seller, but our friends from Russia came across an interesting example from 1925: Masculine Women! Feminine Men! (Music by James V. Monaco, lyrics by Edgar Leslie).

The lyrics provide a good view of the Roaring Twenties, an interesting era which has as much of a right to brag about the invention of the sexual revolution as the 1960's. These lyrics describe the novelty of blurred gender roles — but without the allusion to homosexuality, which was still very much unseen in those days.

I related to this one a lot as far as coming out to myself:

How can you see into my eyes like open doors?
Leading you down into my core where I've become so numb
Without a soul my spirit's sleeping somewhere cold
until you find it there and lead it back home

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can't wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can't wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I've become

now that I know what I'm without
you can't just leave me
breathe into me and make me real
bring me to life

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can't wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can't wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I've become

Bring me to life
(I've been living a lie, there's nothing inside)
Bring me to life

frozen inside without your touch
Without your love, darling
only you are the life among the dead

all this time I can't believe I couldn't see
kept in the dark but you were there in front of me
I've been sleeping a thousand years it seems
got to open my eyes to everything
Without a thought, without a voice, without a soul
don't let me die here
there must be something more
bring me to life

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can't wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can't wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I've become

Bring me to life
(I've been living a lie, there's nothing inside)
Bring me to life
