In lieu of such seriousness...nail polish!

So....we did such an amazing job not drifting and actually getting this whole new sub forum created (amazing!!) that I thought of an idea that...may be a little silly. (though I'm slightly serious though...not all that much.)

I was painting my nails the other night and I stopped at just my thumb. Got bored with it.

I've found I do this alot! I'll only do one thumb. No real reason...other than not wanting to get too serious with it. It got me thinking about the peircing in the right ear of gay men back in the way back. (here in the states. Not sure if that was an international "tell")

So maybe...we androgyns can know each other by only painting one finger, or one hand!!

Whatcha think?

Just our luck...it'd catch on and everyone would do it. We're just that cool. ;)

i also often paint only my thumb, so i would do it as long as i can paint my thumbs in a different color on the days when i really want to paint all my nails

I have to paint them all; I can't stand to see the job 1/2 finished

On another note - has anyone ever used that "hard as nails" polish? I accidentally bought that once and tried to remove it before going to work and it WAS NOT coming off..... panic mode set in because the clock was ticking..... but i eventually got it off and made it to work :P

I often only do one hand, mostly because I suck at left-handed nail-painting. I also tend to paint only the nails on my big toes, because the other nails are so little.

I'm totally up for this. ;D

Hmm.  I love toenail polish, to the point where I think my feet look weird without it.

Have not done it on my fingernails though for more than a minute.  I've thought maybe someday I would but the day hasn't come yet.  I was maybe going to paint them teal to match elements of our taiko uniforms during the big Japanese festrival, but we had costume changes during our set that would have made it not match.

Maybe I'll try the thumb thing though...

I saw this online today, thought it looked pretty awesome.

I've seen a tutorial on youtube on how to do that newsprint style! Very cool. Though I'd still think to only do one....but maybe I could stand to sit still and focus and get all the nails done.

Right now my right thumb (I'm left handed) is painted sparkly shimmery light pink. Kinda fun. I only did it because I did my puppies nails in that color so...figured I'd do mine. (no I never have done her nails before...just got a random thought to do it. lol)

different colors on the hands or thumbs should also work for making a fashion statement for those who have the patience to paint all their nails

Oh definitly!
Also...if you're going to take the time to paint your nails..you're then stuck with only one color? Oh no. That's not very androgyn at all!!

All this talk and I think I need to go change my thumb color. I'm tired of sparkly pink. Maybe dark purple...I've been thinking of trying a marble effect. Looks very cool.

That is seriously cool. Could be nice using chinese, cyrillic or arabic script too.

Went through a phase of wearing nail polish years ago but gave up as I bite my nails though not short, not a nice habit. Theoretically a no no in Islam too although hardly anyone seems to bother about that. Just my excuses for not making the effort really.

There's a swirly gunmetal color I like on my toes.  Tried it on my thumbnails and... no, don't like it.  Right now I just have clear base coat on my thumbnails and not sure I like that either, but it's not as uncomfortable.  Not sure I'm going to get far on this.

Would gladly do each toe in a different color though. :D

I sometimes paint my nails but I get far too frustrated at my inability to create a creamy finish. I'll get someone else to do them properly sometime for a special occasion or something.

i always paint all my nails, but i will still end up with only a few nails having colour on them at some point as I never go to the bother of using nail varnish remover and the stuff chipps off some fingers faster than others XD.

I invented a trick.

Since i am poor and cant afford quality nail polish, i learned that if I paint my nails in some color, then as it starts to peel off on its own, paint another coat over it of a different color, and so on, as the paint is falling off you get strange and cool looking designs.

Like, the paint doesnt fall off the regularly, so the parts in which it fell and the parts of the new paint which are falling, get some nice designs.

Another thing I do is to paint for ex a solid colour all my nails, then using a thin brush paint lines or designs on the other nails.
It's artistic.

I painted my toenails today. One foot green and the other purple.

I've never heard of this hard as nails nail polish before. I gave up doing my fingers long ago because work is too hard on them. Maybe that would help.

I really like your trick ZaidaZadkiel and will put it to good use.

I painted my nails yesterday (only my right hand though. Being left handed...I got bored, and didn't want to fight with my left hand)

It's water marbled. I base coated in white, then did a marble of sparkly pink, blue and dark purple. T'was fun :)

I'd happily paint my fingernails as well as my toes, but my fingernails are much wider than they're tall, so painted, they look really daft, sigh...
