Hey guys, I'm not sure if this post is breaking any rules so if any mods see this and take it down, I apologize for the inconvenience. I was just curious if anyone here wanted to exchange xbox live gamertags or any other usernames for games so we could chill and play. If you're interested just pm me and I'll give you my username vice versa or you guys can just post em and exchange amongst yourselves. ;D

I have a runescape account, xbox live account, and steam account.

RROD?  Or open tray error?

RROD. It got super loud like it was getting ready to launch into space and red ringed. Now when I start it up its fine for about 20 seconds then it gets really loud again. I just tried turning it on and it didn't red ring just got loud.

Clean the dust away from the fan, see if that's better.  If it's getting really loud and it's not the fan, it's most likely the disc drive spinning on warp drive.

It says on the back it's from 2007 and I left it on for 5 days once by accident and overnight a few times. I'm surprised it didn't red ring sooner. I never played battlefield.

I'm going to figure out how to pop the case open so I can take a look inside and clean out any dust and try to fix it.

Just got my new Gears Xbox 360. I gave up trying to fix my old Xbox. Had the open tray error and the red ring a couple of times. I finally also got Xbox Live, message me if you want my gamertag.
The story is the same, I've just personalized the name.

So I just tried to turn my xbox on and now I'm just getting 2 blinking lights which means it thinks it's over heated. It still got super loud. It was only on for half a second. Thinking of trying the penny trick. If that doesn't work I guess I will just have to buy a new one  :-\.

Mr.Rainey

If you want my tag message me. I am rarely on live during the school months but if you like shooters hit me up.

I have a Steamid; I play TF2 on Friday/Saturday/Sunday when I'm at my dad's. I don't have a mic, but if anybody wants to add me for the hell of it, pm me.

Hey Sharky. I'm sure you did some research on your xbox but I came across this site and maybe it could give you a better understanding of whats going on behind your RROD 2 lights issue.

I wish you the best and if you can't get it fixed, I hope I get to welcome you into the xbox 360 slim community! Btw if you DO end up getting a slim, I highly suggest buying the Nyko intercooler fan for it. It's only $20! I know $20 is $20 but I thought that was really cheap for xbox hardware. It is amazing! It sucks out all of the heat from my xbox and blows it out of the fan on top of my xbox. I even left my xbox on all day without knowing and when I went to check on my xbox's heat before I shut it off, it was cold! But the fan was pretty hot but it didn't cause any damage to either one.

I'm not sure about the Nyko though, 'cause others have said that it might contribute to the RROD. I believe it's something with the possibility of it draining energy from the console which can then overheat the power input and sorts. Not sure how or what, but it might be worth investigating a bit though.

I got myself a 360 a few weeks ago, don't have that many games yet but you can add me. Just msg for gamertag.

Nathan, I agree 100% with you on the Nyko for the original xbox 360, however the Nyko I was recommending is specifically for the xbox 360 slim, which cannot get RROD, but can still overheat. I read a lot of reviews and people highly recommend this product and I have also had amazing results with it. Just wanted to throw that in there  :P

I only started playing Xbox like, a couple of months ago, but so far I mostly play Gears, Halo, CoD, Assassin's Creed (I'd play others if I could afford games). Right now I just have a free account but on Friday I'm upgrading so I can actually play. Message me if you want m gamertag... I'll probably message some of you guys above.

Actually, the first batch of Xbox's power cords/bricks were the main culprit for overheating them.  Other factors did play into it though; such as if it's standing vertical instead of laying horizontally, dust collecting, etc.

The kinect will RROD the older (white, non-slim) 360 consoles too.

I always unplug my Xbox from the power source when it's not being used (same goes for the PS3 too), I have no desire to replace them between now and the release of PS4 and Xbox 720.
