Physical Therapy is actually kind of awesome

I'm kind of surprised actually, with the way some other people at work complain about it all the time.  (we have a couple PT's that come to my work, and I know a handful of other coworkers who also go see them)

Since I dislocated my shoulder on the job, I get to have tons of fun with Workmans Comp paperwork and reporting everything to HR.  I guess the paperwork is better than paying the bills my self though.  So for 2 weeks now, I've been going every monday and wednesday to work on rehabilitating my shoulder, and I'm kind of enjoying it.  I have been wanting to start working out more, especially building more muscle in my back and shoulders and arms, so Its been great motivation.  Its a little awkward to be in this room with one other person, and have them be watching me do these arm and shoulder exercises, but they also are really quick to correct me if I start doing something wrong, and they can tell if I don't do my excercises between appointments.

I've had 3 different people so far, and they guy I have seen the last 2 times has been the best so far.  He actually pushes me to keep going and if it doesnt start to hurt (like good, muscles working and getting stronger hurt) toward the end, I have to do more reps.  The first day I saw him, hes asking about the excercises the girls had me do and was like "nope, thats too easy. Were going to work harder than that today, get you strong faster" while I'm thinking "yay! make me bigger shoulder muscles!" He's also always asking about the weight and tension of the latex bands, and asking if its easy yet, and if I feel ready to switch to a heavier weight.  He's basically already decided that next monday I'm switching from a 2 to 3 pound weight (yeah, sounds kind of pathetic, I know) and the next harder latex band.

I'm hoping I continue to be motivated and keep doing everything after I finish with PT, cause its all good stuff that you don't need big weights or machines to do, and its all targeting the muscles I was lacking the motivation to do on my own.

I thought it was kind of awesome too. I went a few years ago, also for my shoulder. I thought it was going to suck but it helped a lot. Plus they would give me a massage after. There were fun parts. I had a sarcastic middle age woman who was always making me laugh. She would have me do one arm push ups, supposedly I was cheating so she had me do them on this narrow table so if I cheated I would fall off.  :icon_lol:

Glad to hear it's going well.  Sounds like a free personal trainer.

haha, i guess it kind of is like a personal trainer, who only cares about my right shoulder.   Kinda ruins it that I had to go through serious pain and a trip to the emergency room, and xrays and MRI's first though.

Yay workmans' comp! I'm glad you're getting that shoulder taken care of. PT is indeed teh awesome.

I've finally started PT for my chronic back and pelvic pain issues and I am so thankful. I'm kinda out of commission for a few days afterward (the pain gets worse and it's exhausting) but once my body gets over the shock, I've started to see some little everyday improvements for the first time in my life. It's like finding the light at the end of the tunnel. And it's not an oncoming train for once!

I damaged my knee real bad at work once, to the point where the doc's wanted to cut me open. I was told that repairs on my knee where 50/50 and just going in there would cause enough possible damage that I might end up needing a fake knee by the time I was 35.

The other option was 6 to 8 months of PT going three times a week and that also had a 50/50 chance of working.

I picked the PT cause I've heard of stories of fake knees just not working out at all.

The PT crew I had was optimistic that they could help me and after 6 WEEKS I was back to work with 80% range of motion in my knee. The doc's were like WTF and even the PT crew was like damn you didn't mess around with this.

I swear by PT for most anything. Most 'pains' or things people go to chiropractors for are more or less muscle issues and honestly if some people were less wimps about having to work hard to keep in shape America would be a healtier place.
