Well finally at the age of 44 I have decided its time to talk to my doctor about transitioning. I am both nervous and excited by the prospect. I haven't much idea what to expect but our new doctors surgery has been so good so far and so i felt it was safe to go to them. I will be making an appointment soon.
The only thing is I don't think I can take T with the medication I am on. So will they let me transition without T?

What did you intend to do in your transition? What surgey did you have? What kind of doctor is the new doctor?

What meds are you on? Can men take these meds too? I think transition means something a little different to everyone since it's a personal thing. I personally don't think I could transition with out T. I wouldn't want to look androgynous and young my whole life. If you don't want T from your doctor, what is there to talk about with him? . If you want top surgery then you will have to contact the surgeon to find out what their requirements are.  If you want bottom surgery you are going to need T for growth.

Like I said its all new to me. I am in the UK by the way.
I would eventually like top surgery and an hysto.
Medications for thyroid, high cholestrol, anxiety, stomach ulcer.

You could potentially have problems there. T does tend to increase cholesterol and I'm not sure if thyroid problens mess with T levels or the other way round.

Do you use NHS? If so there's a whole process to it wich is a pain but if you go private things can speed up.

*Note: I know nothing about the health insurance companies.

I'm not on T yet myself, but I can tell you that If you want a Hysto, You will need to be on sometime of hormone therapy.   A hysto will remove everything that produces hormones,  so you will stop producing estrogen, which sounds awesome, but  you can't be healthy without then starting on Testosterone or replacing the estrogen that you are no longer producing.  You can get top surgery without T though If you find a doctor that will agree to it.

Only your doctor can tell you if Testosterone will screw with your other medications.

Talk to your doctor about T and the effects on meds.  Its a natural hormones so shouldnt have an affect on your meds.  I was nervous about being denied T b/c I am on a lot of meds -- have several medical issues --  I am 40 as well.  She the AMA deemed hormones a medical necessity for transgender folks doctors are working hard to get folks on it.   My doctor said I could take T and I have multiple medical issues and I am overweight

Thanks for the replies. I guess I will just have to wait and see what happens.  :-\
Top surgery is the main thing for me, I absolutely hate having these things! They aren't big but they are still there and its just not right.  :(

I think there should be no problem with T and the meds you are on... As R.Scott wrote, T is a natural hormone that is produced by both males and females (but females produce it in the lesser amount). You can be told "hey, T can increase the possibility of this health problem, so be careful and follow the good lifestyle and visit your GP regularly". On the contrary, some problems may disappear thanks to testosterone. As anything, it has its pros and cons. Good luck with your transition! ;)

Congratulations on making your decision!
I'm glad to hear that you're excited about it!

Unfortunately, I can't really give you the answer to that question.
All you can do is ask your doctors, "I'm on this medication, can I use T?" and "Can I transition without T?"

I don't know about legal aspects, but I know that the hottest man in Canada is a transman who doesn't use T (No, seriously, it was in a magazine)

Plus, I know guys who don't take T who've had their legal sex change - with no surgery, mind you. I don't know if you'll be able to get top surgery if you're not on T.

He actually decided not too long ago to start testosterone. http://cltampa.com/dailyloaf/archives/2011/03/24/the-cliks-frontman-lucas-silveira-performs-solo-at-the-orpheum-tonight-hunter-valentine-and-sick-of-sarah-open#.Tn_HUezEKSo  I remember hearing about it because I was surprised. At any rate though he was rated the hottest man even while pre-t which is awesome!

Just adding another congrats man :)
