Hmm. I've just committed to turning up for an evening in London with 5 friends from school. Apart from one whom I met last year, I haven't seen any of them since 1981! Oh, and they're all blokes. One of them was my best friend when I was around 11.

So for one thing, I'm going to be outing myself to them that evening. Which will be interesting! That is to say, I'll be turning up looking like I normally do at the moment, which is in fairly androgynous girl's clothes. I think I maybe already came out to the one I met last year, because I was asking him if he knew how to get in contact with someone else we were at school with, who transitioned just after leaving school. (I'm still trying to get hold of her... just to say hi, how are you?)

But the thing that makes me more anxious is that I couldn't stay with friends that night (the last train back to my town leaves London before we even sit down to eat!) so I've booked into a youth hostel. And of course, I'm sharing a dorm with blokes - unless, as happened the last time, a friendly receptionist can put me in an empty dorm (it's midweek, so it's a bit more likely to be empty). Oh well, I'll just have to take it as it comes.

Sounds like a plan.

I have to admit if a reunion happened to me know, which it won't; so maybe cowards defence, I would go as me. Whatever me is me. You don't seem to be a girly girl but maybe a blouse and long skirt girl, since it will be sort of formal I expect? Your height would carry it and get a nice make up job as well. Maybe?

No, not formal at all, just a small bunch of folk meeting in an Indian restaurant after work one evening (managed to talk them out of the Brazilian steak house - yeah, sure they'll have something vegetarian ::)). I don't do skirts, or makeup. I just do me. Er - you know what I mean :). So it'll be a stripy top and my girly bootcut jeans (I've outgrown dungarees for the moment) and my red Converse hi-tops. And my funky red glass earrings of course... it makes a big difference to my sense of confidence to be dressed how I'm comfortable, rather than how others might expect.

Sorry Sis going to bed.

Depression that time of the month and the whole hell is drifting in.

I've just discovered there's a reunion coming up later in the year.. I've decided to go.. I still have a bunch of friends from HS, who now all know abut me, so I'll have plenty of support and backup, just in case the school bully hasn't changed his spots..

The great thing is that they are also inviting as many of the staff as they can locate, some of whom I'd really love to see again..

Maybe the school bully is now a girl :).

I had a tormentor at school, and a year after I left I bumped into him in a pub, and he said to me "I totally hated school - all I really wanted to do was dance!" and he was in a modern dance troupe and looked really happy (and was drinking orange juice :)). And I thought to myself: dammit, I can't hate him any more now!

Well, I hope my "sleep-over" is going to be in a room on my own - if not, it'll be with one or two strangers, which could be interesting from a PTSD point of view :). As for my preferences, they lie towards monogamy at the moment (new girlfriend :)) so whoever I'm in a room with, it's going to be a celibate occasion.

It's a fortnight from now. Plenty happening between now and then!

I  just avoided my 10 year, you're a braver girl than I ;)
Although there's not really people I've lost contact with and wish to regain, so no real regrets.
Good luck, maybe you can hire a taser if you can't get your own dorm.

I'll be going to my 50th high school reunion next year.  While I did have friends there, I also melted into the background a lot so a lot of people won't really remember what I looked like.  After looking at my yearbook picture, no one will remember me.  I was one year younger than most of the kids there, young looking for my age and had a rather unrememberable face.

But I did post a story about my transition on the highschool webpage a couple years back so anyone who has looked already knows about me and I have talked with a couple of the Reunion committe on the phone so they know of my changes too.

It should be interesting.
Nameless here for evermore!;  Merely this, and nothing more;
Tis the wind and nothing more!;  Quoth the Raven, "Nevermore!!"

I don't have high school reunions, thankfully, cause I'm a dropout. And universities don't have reunions so safe there too. Rather stay away from that whole mess. Didn't even like being back on campus a few days ago changing my info at the Registrar's Office. Too many bad memories. The piercing in my ear commemorating my survival of the education system is reminder enough for me.

Hope you have fun, Padma. Or at least that it isn't too awful.

Fortunately, this isn't a school reunion in the traditional sense - I went on one of those a few years ago for anyone who'd ever been to my school, and it was way creepy. This is just six people who were actually friends at school meeting up again after a very long time, to eat, drink, and each imagine everyone except themselves looks really old :). I'm looking forward to seeing them all - one or two of them I wasn't so close to, but it's fascinating to hear where people's lives have taken them. Plus, good curry!!! ;D Actually, the only thing I'm not looking forward to too much (apart from the possible sharing of a dorm room at the youth hostel afterwards) is that everyone but me will be drinking booze, so towards the end of the evening things could get a bit weird.

Oh, they all pretty much say what's on their minds anyway, if I remember them ;D.
