Right so i went to my first Smear test.. only cause i was being nagged about it from family... well anyways it was alright i was a bit nervous like, but whatever didnt take long.. a couple weeks later waiting for the results only to find out that they werent able to get enough eggs because im on T, so the whole bloody thing was a waste of time.. now i have to insert some female hormone into my area for 5 days each night before my next appointment. surely they should have known to do this before hand?? has anyone else had this issue? and if i had a hysterectomy wud that solve never having to go get a smear test again?  :-\

Eh? Your eggs? What do those have to do with a pap smear?

Far as I know, all they do is scrape your cervix for cervical cells. That's all they did to me. (And I was on T. In fact, they did it because I'm on T.)

Aye, no eggs involved unless you are trying to save for having a child.  No female hormones needed either. Someone is lying to you or your provider. If you have a hysto that removes your cervix, ( not all do) then you don't need a pap smear.

No I didn't have a hysterectomy, sorry I was just asking if I was to have one...

About the eggs, well that's what the practice nurse called them?

A bit worried now...

Unless I managed to get confused with the words cells and eggs somehow.. the more I think about it I must of lol okay so not eggs but cells.. Lol
Still I was given ESTRIOL cream which is a cream that they give women who are going through menopause.. Apparently it will help produce CELLS, for which they can screen for cancer.

Neither of u had that?

Nope, nor was I asking if you had a hysto. You asked if you would still need a smear if you had one. I was answering that.

Ur right

Well I dunno then, don't see why they'd treat me differently... Maybe u guys were still able to produce the cells, where I'm not??

Haven't heard of that one before. Do they know you are on T? It sounds as if the Path lab had a look at the slides and said no cervical cells present; do a repeat, they probably had not been told that you were on T and not producing any. I'd have a talk to your GP/family doc. It sounds like missed communication.

Well my examination is on wednesday, so I might as well see what happens.. However I'll inquire about this with my therapist, who deals with trans people all the time.. I think I'm the only FTM at my local GP, so I think they may lack knowledge with FTM's??

Cheers.. Let u know what happens anyhow..

Cervical cancer is mainly caused by the HPV virus.  Other causes are smoking, multiple partners, other diseases transmitted from those multiple partners, and in rare cases, high testosterone levels.  My mom died from cervical cancer.  She was a 2 pack a day smoker and me and the siblings suspected that she may have gotten HPV from my dad, who had multiple partners before meeting my mom.  There was no PAP test back then.

Just to update people about this, I researched (which I shud of done before) but it is completely normal, for trans guys who are on T to be giving female hormone cream to use before a smear test..

For the guys who said they never got any, well I can only say u must of had a smear not long after starting T.. I however had been on it over 2 years therefor my body wasn't producing enough cells..

But thanks for everyone input..
