ftm: Aiden, Caden, Jayden, and any other spelling of those names. I have NEVER in my life seen so many guys with those names as I have in the trans community. Josh and Jake are popular, too, but I've omitted those from my list because they're incredibly popular among bio-men, as well.

mtf: Kate, overwhelmingly, Jessica, and Jennifer. Again, you can attribute their popularity quite a bit to their being very popular among bio-women.

I've been told my name is popular (Adrian), yet I only know one other Adrian and that's my step cousin I've only ever met once, oh and Adrian Brody.

FTM: Alex does seem really popular, ironically that was the first name that went through my mind when I started transition. lol.
Yep, Jake, Jacob, Damian, Dominic, wouldn't say they're bad names just used a lot.

MTF: I can only think of two women that I know of and neither of their names is in any way used often so I'm not going to say. But very feminine names seem to be popular.

It seems from what I've noticed is that a lot of us try to choose something that is either way masculine or way feminine. Which makes sense because we don't want to be associated with a gender we are not.

I like Adrian even though it's neutral (It was originally intended for boys), because I'm flamboyant, I like makeup and nail polish, and I can rock it. :) But that's just me. ;)

Holy crap, Jayden. Jayden, Braden, every kind of "aden" name imaginable it seems.
And Cody.

The only Braden I've met is a young bio-guy who works at the pub I live in - I had to get him to repeat his name, because I'd never come across it before (and because this pub is loud!). As for MTFs, I seem to know a bevy of Dans and Steves.

Oh bugger all... and to think I picked my name when I was 7 years old.  It was 1985, in Los Angeles, and I read something about a woman named Zoe.  It was instant love.

But outside these forums, I've never met another transwoman named Zoe. :o

Lyric

I've had the opportunity to see MTF names over multiple decades. I remember when "Wendy" seemed to be the most cliche TG name. Names like "Christina", "Valerie" and "Olivia" seemed to have been a bit over used, too.

Incidentally, "Lyric" is a name only use on the web, but I picked it because it had a special significance to me. Offline I have a much more common feminine name, but one I chose carefully-- one which has evolved a bit since I chose the original version in the '80s. Some time back I did a Google Image Search with variations of my name to see if there were similarities between persons with the names. There did seem to be. Many women with my name tend to be successful and enterprising. That's not so for some other names I checked. When choosing a name for yourself, try this first.

When I chose a name for myself, I wanted to make sure of two things:

1. It was not an overly common TG name
2. It was not so unique it gave attention to myself.

Number two was important to me because I already have a disadvantage of being female and fitting in when it comes to stealth (simply because I am trans) and I wanted a name that did not give too much attention to myself since there will be tons of other attentions coming at me already lol.

I like Olive cause it makes me think of Olive Oil, Popeye's girlfriend!

She is funny and kind of old fashioned.  That's why I picked the Olive part.  Now the level part, I just use on the web.  That's not really part of my name.  I don't know any other Olives.  I've never met one.

And if stupid Hollywood type names their kid that I'm tuning them up.

Aiden, Jayden, Kaden, Kade, Jace (plus any and all variations in spelling), Ryan, Parker, Skylar

for males.
  •

Felix

FtM: Max and Aiden

MtF: I dunno. The only one I can think of I've seen more than once is Danni, and variations thereof.

I'd like to make it clear I'm not dogging on these names. They're fine. :)

Names that rhyme Aiden are pretty common among cis males too; it's just that their popularity is fairly new so most cis males with those names are infants and toddlers now which is why it seems so disproportionate with cis males compared to trans males. I'm guessing in a few years they will be just as common in cis males as in trans males.

True. It kinda makes sense that trans guys would choose names which are currently trendy & popular.... thus having the name as nearly every baby born 2009-2011... but I've found that having one of those names can out you as trans, at least to other trans people. Imagine meeting a 40-year old man named Aydin.... "trans" is the first thing that would come to mind.

Yep... and what a lot of transfolk don't seem to understand is that you need to make sure your chosen name will make sense given when you were born. The Social Security Administration keeps a list of names given to babies by year and their popularity, so it's pretty easy to find out whether you'll be called out as trans or not simply for your name. When I chose Sebastien initially, I knew it wasn't too common, but considering that my family has French ancestry and a French last name, it made sense, since Sebastien is a very common French name and has been for generations. I added Luc to the front and hyphenated my first name, which is also common in French culture. I get people asking me if Luc is short for Lucas, and they're confused when I say no, but when I say it's French, they get it. Oh... and I don't think the name Luke has ever gone out of popularity.
