There's a few chat places I go to. One is a United Church of Christ chat for laity and Pastors. Whenever I am in there discussing topics and such, I will usually encounter someone using "hon." For example, "well, Hon, in our church ......." And the use it every 3 lines lol.

Then I'll pm them and asks about things like "so what is your stance on LGBT issues in the church" and then they will ALWAYS say "well, I am for it because I attend so and so church because I am transgender."

Other places like IRC uses the word "hon" like its going out of style. While I do not normally PM then and asks "hey are you trans," the ones who say they are or the ones who have like "girlygurl-TV" are indicators they are. And these girls throw the word around a lot too.

For cis women, I hardly ever hear them say the word "hon" in chat for the exception of maybe women in their 50s. And they use it sparingly.

Again, this is just my observation. Not documented fact. Nor do I think it's wrong. Just something I have noticed.

I never liked either of these. I'm not a sweet yellow liquid, and that guy is not my brother. Maybe it's an English people's thing.

Anyway, maybe your impression is wrong, because I see loads of bro and hons on an online game I play, and I do not think it is related in any way to trans things.

you know how many guys play female characters in online games? I am part of a Guild called Taint in World of Warcraft.....I am on ventrillo with them so I can hear them talk through their mics. Many of the female characters are men behind the keyboard. Not all. And yeah, they throw around the word "hun" or "hon" a lot too.

Also when I "raid" in the game you have to have vent open as it is easier to just say something versus typing it. I would say a good 70% of the female toons in my raiding groups are men too. Now, of course this isn't related to trans at all but I wonder if when they play a female character they use "hon" because it sounds feminine? Which, would relate to some transgenders using the word "hon" because it sounds feminine. Same when someone uses "tehee squeak giggle >=.=<" when they laugh ;)

I use "babe" a lot. Sometimes I'll use "doll", and rarely I'll use "ma belle" if I'm feeling playful. :P The "honey" thing I'm a bit weird about; I don't particularly care for it myself, but if it has to be used then it must be "honey" or "hunni", no "hon" or "hun"! :icon_userfriendly:

Abstract

Quote from: Annah on October 22, 2011, 01:06:19 PM
Since I have joined some trans related places (more specifically, trans related chat rooms), I have noticed a type of Vernacular Trend that some trans people do in a chat room. It isn't as apparent in forums or blogs, but you can see it often in chat.

And that is the word "hon" by trans women and "bro" (or other spellings of it) by the trans men.

I don't think this is wrong by any means. It's just something I have noticed.

Of course, I understand that some cis females use "hon" and cis men use "bro" but its like I can almost pic out someone in a chat room if they are trans, CD, etc by the over using of those terms of endearments.

Just something I noticed is all :)
I imagine there are more tells as a result of the environment that TG's must (perhaps fortunately?) endure...

I Use Hun on messengers but not in a chat room. I also use 'babes' too. Seems my dear friend Kaz was a bad influence on me because she uses that term a lot.

I've never heard any transgendered person referred to as a "wanna be." Aren't you TG if you say you are?
