I browsed through the comments to see what people were thinking about the show, and the first one I saw was pretty horrible (though there were several comments that made me O.O ><.  There were a few good ones, though, especially about the doctor-lady (Mcginn?).

I just saw it.  On a scale of 1-10 I would rate is somewhere in the 6-7 range. 

Oprah started with the story of a lesbian couple who recently had twins.  Then she was seen on stage with Christine and Lisa, the parents, and she introduced them to the audience.  Then the "shocker" - the woman, Christine. "fathered her children!"  That was followed by a lot of murmuring from the audience.  And then Oprah hit them with another "shocker" - "Christine used to be a man!"  And more murmuring from the crowd.

Oprah didn't have to lead the audience like that.  This is not Jerry Springer, at least I don't think it is.

So the show lost a lot of points for that.

But then she allowed for the show to focus on their kids, their relationship, their extended family but mostly on Christine and her life.  Oprah (again) used improper terminology (ie: "transgendering" instead of "transitioning" and "fem it up" rather than "feminization") but that I think is for the audience.  Oprah probably doesn't want to come across as being too knowledgeable about LGBT stuff or her audience might realize she's lesbian.

Lisa was talking about her father and how he's handled everything and she said what I thought was the best message of the interview, "I don't need his acceptance, only his love."  And Oprah picked up on that and repeated it.  At the end of the interview she repeated it again.

Christine also said something I thought was very positive.  In talking about how TGs are portrayed in the media (and Oprah used the term "creepy") she said she was on the show to let people know we're just ordinary people with ordinary families. 

I hope the audience got that.

6-7 isn't a too terribly bad rating, definitely better than I thought it was going to be. I'm glad it wasn't too terribly bad of a show and she might have used improper terms for the audience, which seems to be what a lot of hosts/hostesses do.

I don't watch programs like this. I'm sure they are very nice, informative and entertaining, but they don't interest me.

Anyway, I'm boring you with that comment because I've just read some of the responses on the site, linked to.

The two negative comments seem both to be based upon similar logic, namely, that they don't like change, that things were fine as they were.

They were not fine. We do need change.

I won't even start to comment on this one. It is so full of flaws that I'd be writing all night and no-doubt, many would want to add more.

But on a positive note. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the sum total of the negativity.

I'd call that, not bad.

It is on today at 4 PM and I will definately be watching it.

I just saw it, it went exactly as Julie described. I'd give it a 9-10/10. I'm working with McGinn so I really wanted to see this and was very impressed with Christine and Lisa. I think people will be more open to trans people because of the show. Another quote I liked was that "it's ok to be different".

Sandy came over last night with her partner.  Sandy's a McGinn girl.  So we put the show on for them.  The second time around was a bit better for me.  I also got the feeling Oprah was really pushing how positive a message it is to accept differences.  Hurtfulsplash, thank you for reminding me of that.

After the McGinn interview, Oprah went into the Modern Family feature with more enthusiasm than I have ever seen from her (but I haven't seen a lot of her shows, so this may not be unusual).  Anyway, she seemed so pumped about the Modern Family show, like she was their biggest fan.  I haven't seen it but I will make a point of doing so.

The impression I got was Modern Family is sending a message to the masses that different is the new normal.  That would be very cool if that message took hold.  The normal most try to be is boring.  We need a new normal and "different" fits that bill perfectly!

Found this interesting video, she sure has class. Dr. Christine McGinn interviewed ..

She certainly does have class, and she is one of the most amazing people I've ever met. I get to see her today in fact! My last post-op follow up appointment before I go back to Australia. As I posted in another thread on this show, I think Dr. McGinn is very brave to do what she does to provide a positive image of those of us who transition to the rest of the world. She is a real treasure and I'll say it again, totally my hero.

Yeah, I read some of the comments too.  Every negative comment I read cited God or the Bible (or both) as the reason why the person had a problem.  I could have countered the "one man, one woman" arguments with "you say gender is fixed.  That makes McGinn a man.  Therefore this relationship is one man, one woman."  One person kept citing Romans 1:24-28, something about wrath and depravity.  Is it any wonder why so many LGBT people have a problem with religion?

I'm -really- late on this, but I can't find this episode anywhere! Would anyone have a download or stream link?
